SGUD missile Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 unfortunately, the "information age" is rapidly becoming the " oops ..sorry ..my bad" age. :tdown  Quote
Spontooneous Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 I'm sorry, but it's gotta be said: Jazz Times needs to fire the bozo who published the bogus death report. There are plenty of perfectly capable jobless journalists out there who need the opportunity and the paycheck, and who would make damn sure that what they publish is true. Quote
bertrand Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Maybe Jazz Times needs to hire a fact checker. Bertrand. Quote
Van Basten II Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Maybe we should change the subtitle , unless we're talking about ripping the music out of his CDs Quote

B. Goren. Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 False news of death is a guarantee of longevity. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 (edited) That is very sloppy work by JazzTimes, it is essential to verify deaths before publishing an obit, even if it is just online. A number of years ago their was a broadcast magazine that listed Marian McPartland among the year's notable deaths in their annual obituary list. Since I was serviced by Concord records and had heard nothing by email from them and there was an obvious time lag between creating the list, printing and mailing, I immediately dismissed it as an error. I even left Marian a joking message about the goof on her home phone and the next time we talked I discovered that I was the first one to inform her. Needless to say, she's still alive and the magazine ceased publication within a year or two, no mistake! Edited June 25, 2011 by Ken Dryden Quote

Justin V Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 (edited) Wonder how the rumor got started? A Google group page actually says that he is recovering from a stroke: On Jun 23, 11:07 pm, "gordo" <gordo...@comcast.net> wrote: > FACEBOOK is reporting that Jack has died................. Just spoke with Jack Sheldon at 8:15am (Pacific). Recovering from a stroke, but very much alive. Rumors of his death have been greatly exagerrated! - Kevin Gershan (Entertainment Tonight) kevin.gers...@cbs.com Edited June 27, 2011 by Justin V Quote
duaneiac Posted June 12, 2016 Report Posted June 12, 2016 The still not dead yet Jack Sheldon appeared with Gordon Goodwin's band in Anaheim earlier this month: Quote

JSngry Posted December 1, 2016 Report Posted December 1, 2016 I'm a fan of subversive Easy Listening records, and Jack Sheldon made one of the best ever with this one: http://dougpayne.blogspot.com/2011/04/warm-world-of-jack-sheldon.html If you're genetically allergic to "this type of thing" then, no. Otherwise, it's a gas in its own ways on its own terms. The follow-up, The Cool World Of Jack Sheldon is kind of a drag, so yes, there is a difference in Easy Listening records. Quote

medjuck Posted December 2, 2016 Report Posted December 2, 2016 (edited) it always bugged me that Peter Weldon's liner notes to the cd version of The Return of Art Pepper are built around putting down Sheldon. (And IIRC the mosaic select reprinted those notes.) I think his playing is just fine on those sessions. And does anyone remember his tv show "Run Buddy Run". Edited December 2, 2016 by medjuck Quote
