Hardbopjazz Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 (edited) The owner of the Keystone Korner Todd Barkan use to record the shows at his club without permission of the musicians. Many of the recordings were lost when he had a fire. I came across one and wondered if there were more. Anyone know more about Todd Barkan's recordings. The one I found was Sonny Rollins from 73. mjzee Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 Max Gordon used to record Village Vanguard shows too. I've always been curious about what exists. Quote
brownie Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 The Bill Evans 'Consecration' set was recorded by Barkan at Keystone Corner. There's also the Tete Montoliu 'Live at Keystone Corner' on Timeless. Plenty more... Quote

Hardbopjazz Posted June 20, 2011 Author Report Posted June 20, 2011 He runs Dizzy's Club Coca Cola now. I don't know if I should ask him what exists and are there any plans of getting the music out to the masses, that is if the artists or estates agree. Quote

His answer was "Everything that Evans played was recorded and everything that was recorded was issued on CD" I you have the 2 -8 CD sets of this engagement you got it all. Quote
gmonahan Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 It seems like I heard the same rumors about Buddy Rich's old nightclub in New York. Was it on 33rd street? gregmo Quote
Ken Dryden Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 Phil Woods told me that he has Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola record every set that he performs there. Quote
marcello Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 (edited) Re: Dizzy' Recordings, A single night is recorded at each week long engagement so that the music can be edited down to a broadcast on XM Radio. About Todd's archives: I'm sure that he takes care to get proper releases from any musician or estate. There are recordings that have been issued on Theresa Records like: There was also a Keystone Berkley, where there was a more blues/soul programing. Here's a poster of the original Keystone Korner I found: Edited June 20, 2011 by marcello Quote
