brownie Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) Enjoy... A CBC telecast videotaped on July 22, 1959 according to the excellent Lee Morgan discography by Jeffery S. McMillan http://press.umich.edu/pdf/9780472115020-Discography.pdf Edited June 19, 2011 by brownie Quote
king ubu Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Very nice! (But whenever I try to turn up the volume, the image will freeze while the sound goes on... how annoying!) Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 (edited) Funnily enough, found this the other week...I love the way Oscar has such a short solo, but still tries to fit in 'all the notes'...also, I enjoy Morgan here, but a trumpet player friend of mine commented as we were watching, and I think it's true - he's struggling with something or other..! Thanks for posting! Edited June 19, 2011 by Alexander Hawkins Quote
sidewinder Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 That July 1959 appearance by Morgan in Toronto was the visit on which he hooked up with Wayne Shorter at the Toronto CNE Grounds (Shorter was with Maynard Ferguson), I believe, and persuaded him to join The Messengers. I don't think Hank was up to making the trip. Quote

I don't think Hank was up to making the trip. Yes indeed: Jul 24 (Fri) - Toronto, Canada: 2:30 p.m. CNE Grandstand. First Canadian Jazz Festival. Hank Mobley fails to make the gig and Morgan petitions Wayne Shorter, who is at the festival with Maynard Ferguson, to join the band. Shorter does not join the band on this occasion but joins a week later at the jazz festival in Indiana. Source is McMillan's Mogie chronology Quote

king ubu Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Well, you can invade it... most of them don't even close their doors if Michael Moore didn't lie about that... Quote
patricia Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 Well, you can invade it... most of them don't even close their doors if Michael Moore didn't lie about that... Well, not quite yet. Our new Prime Minister is kind of a mini-Bush, attempting to instill fear of the unknown in us. So, many of us are now not only closing our doors, but locking them at night. YIKES!!! Quote
king ubu Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 Whoah, that's crazy! Guess it's a wise thing to do, or else the Hank fans will steal your children.... or some such Quote
