Adam Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I just saw Maceo playing with Prince at the Forum in Inglewood last week. Good times! Quote
Noj Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 JB's grunts and screams drive a song better than most singers. And man could he dance! There will never be a tighter funk unit. Quote
Mark Stryker Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) Killin' performance. But that's not from the Mike Douglas Show -- the guy at the drums at the start of the clip, presumably making an introduction, looks like the comedian David Steinberg. Here's JB on MD singing the same song in the same year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7s4bemKEY0&feature=related Edited June 7, 2011 by Mark Stryker Quote
Al in NYC Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 This is from the ABC show Music Scene hosted by David Steinberg. There's also a clip floating around from the same show featuring Marva Whitney with JB's band. Quote
JSngry Posted June 8, 2011 Author Report Posted June 8, 2011 Sincerely appreciate the illumination as to the source material. Quote
Dave James Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 (edited) I'm having trouble grasping the concept of James Brown on the Mike Douglas Show. I'll bet that white bread audience filled with Philadelphia housewives went down big time for the Godfather. Edited June 12, 2011 by Dave James Quote
Mark Stryker Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Yesterday Christian McBride sent out a cryptic tweet asking if anybody knew of any James Brown bootlegs from Nov. 1969 and March 1970 and any recorded shows from 1972. I'm a JB fan (who isn't?) but my understanding of the discography is limited and I know the career details only casually, so I responded by asking Christian why he chose those specific dates. I suspect he may have gotten several such replies, because he posted a longer, meticulously detailed summary here: http://christianmcbride.com/scrolls/scroll_mythang_output.html?id=169 Definitely worth a read.
