Kevin Bresnahan
I have read about "The Cookers" shows that have been happening in NYC for a few years now, always wishing I could catch this band on the road. Well, on June 16th, I'm finally getting my chance. They're coming to the Scullers Jazz Club in Boston. I can't wait. How could it be anything but a great time with this band: David Weiss, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet Billy Harper & Craig Handy on sax George Cables on piano Cecil McBee on bass Billy Hart on drums Should be a fun Thursday night in Boston. Is anyone else going to catch this show? PS. I hope that Jeremy Pelt's substitution for Eddie Henderson is not health related. This is the venue info they gave me Polish National Home, 60 Charter Oak Ave. Hartford, CT. 06103 Hope you can make it..... Domestic or import label? And tracklisting? Can't wait!! Believe, For it is True (Billy Harper) Temptation(s) (Cecil McBee) Ebony Moonbeams (George Cables) Free For All (Wayne Shorter) Quest (Billy Harper) But He Knows (George Cables) Tight Squeeze (Cecil McBee) Naaj (Billy Hart) All have been recorded before in one form or another except for Temptation(s). ejp626
I think I'll be able to make the Vancouver show. On the whole, Cookers aside, I am not that impressed with the VIJF lineup announced so far, but some of the up and coming artists that fill in the rest of the slots should be interesting. I see Wayne Shorter does have a heck of a group backing him, but honestly I've been fairly disappointed when I heard him live as a leader, and the ticket price is high enough that I would really regret it if the gig turned out like previous ones.
