jazzbo Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Was the remaster issued in the 2010 box? See below image: As far as I can tell, those are all the same remasters as the earlier discs outside the set. Quote

JETman Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 Again, Sony here in the US never (to my knowledge) released "Jazz Goes to College" with THAT cover. Quote
vodka Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 The only negative thing about this and the other box sets in this series is that they don't have a booklet, and they definitely need inner CD sleeves. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 3, 2011 Report Posted June 3, 2011 Okay guys, I've compared Jazz Goes to College and Gone with the Wind from the box set against the original cds. I'm on the fence. They do sound a little different, but not really significantly. The box set versions are mastered LOUDER than the early cds. Hoffman board people would prefer that not to be the case I'd guess. There does some to be a bit of a difference between the two versions, but essentially it sounds like the same mastering with a bit of eq difference, possibly related to the loudness, or a pass from an equalizer. They don't sound significantly different to me. I'd invite other opinions as I'm not in one of those "frames of mind" to do extensive comparisons this week. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted June 3, 2011 Report Posted June 3, 2011 I have the box and am happy to live with the masterings. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 3, 2011 Report Posted June 3, 2011 (edited) Definitely no reason not to hang with the box, or to pick up the box set if you only have a few of these. I think I got the box set for like fifteen dollars including shipping. Edited June 3, 2011 by jazzbo Quote

The liner notes to the reissued Brandenburg Gate Revisited are actually incredibly moving, Brubeck writing about crossing the Iron Curtain. Quote
