GREAT GREAT bargain-- Victoria box cond. Michael Noone (hero of x # of Guerrero recordings), Americans should get it from .co.uk, more revelatory, brilliant music/performances than every non-Nessa "jazz"/Mosaic Lunceford reissue of the past year--

Currently on hmv.com [uk] for a good price.

Quite a few good offers there in fact including the Berio reissue someone mentioned above. The offers have a tendency to disappear suddenly, though a few can also be found on amazon.co.uk.

Delivery to Europe or to ROW is not maybe as cheap as amazon.co.uk...

In fact read the small print as there is VAT weirdness going on which affects non-UK EU customers. Minefield.

Just look at the nice picture instead:

Doesn't qualify as mega-bargain, but I've been getting into HIP string playing and am seriously tempted by this 5-CD set

naivee8935.jpg

at around $25 + S/H. Track listing hard to find on US sites, but is given here.

I went ahead and ordered this. Loved the clips I listened to, the Mosaiques have a great reputation, and only the Beethoven on this set is a duplication for me (but I don't yet have any HIP versions).

If you still have money to spend, here's a boxset that should be of interest,

Here's a complete tracklist

Either on Amazon UK or France it is about 115 $

It is strange how much higher it is for the Amazon.com pre-order ($200+). Had this come out closer to the Living Stereo set, I probably would have jumped on it, but I've tracked down many of the key Living Presence CDs (or at least listened to them at the library) and there are perhaps only 5 or 6 that are really calling to me (beyond the ones I already picked up), and I can't justify that cost. If it came down to $50 or so, I might still go for it, but I think I'll end up passing.

The US price has gone downto $130. If it dips under $100, I'll be very tempted.

At the current price, it's only $2.50 per CD. That's pretty darn good. In fact, that's amazing. Who would have thought prices would go that low?

I thought this (4 discs, $15+S/H) looked interesting,

but then saw this (9 discs, $36+S/H).

I'm more interested in the piano music, and the 34-CD DG box

is more than I'd ever listen to. And the Leslie Howard mega piano box is just too much...

Thanks! That looks like a better idea.

I went ahead and bought this:

10 discs for under $30 - not exactly sure of the contents ( ) but seems hard to go wrong.

I once thought Liszt was bombastic and vacuous, but have come to enjoy his music, though it's definitely "high calorie", so to speak...

Cziffra is going to put a high flame under that high calorie music. Extremely dynamic and exciting performances.

I got the Living Stereo box with 60 CDs for $99 and the Decca Sound with 50 for $90. This set should be in that range.

Those are great prices. Where did you score them? I haven't seen prices near those in US.

Those were the preorder prices at Amazon. If you keep an eye open, I'm sure they'll dip again. There are Amazon price watching sites that will email you when a price goes down into a specified range. That makes it easy to wait for a sale.

I certainly don't need it (such a huge backlog of classical music to get through), but I will probably pre-order the Toscanini.

Here's another EMI box set that sort of slipped through the cracks for me: Klaus Tennstedt - The Great EMI Recordings. Still a pretty good price at Amazon.co.uk Tennstedt and decent but not quite as good a price at Amazon.com.

In addition, there is another Munch box set with Romantic classics (Munch) and Bruno Walter conducting Mozart (mostly the Symphonies) - Walter/Mozart

I'll probably eventually go after these sets as well.

Thanks. This is a nice set! The 5 Chopin discs were a real surprise: I regarded them as "throw-ins", but I've been listening to them more than the Liszt (which is excellent as stated). Chopin's a composer who I never "got" before, but this box has changed things.
