king ubu
Wagner - The Great Operas of all the jubilee boxes, this one looks most interesting to me (though the DG includes all librettos - German versions only, as far as I understand) ... and amazon.it is offering it for a mere 32 euros right now: http://www.amazon.it/Great-Operas-Various-Artists/dp/B008YKRRJU/

It depends on just how low it goes, I guess.
king ubu
I'll be waiting for more details ... and paying some more attention to Reiner where I have him. Not sure I'll need this one, really. And I definitely don't need the Horowitz. The one monstrous box I regret not having is probably the Heifetz ... but then I've got plenty of what's in it by now, so I'm good. alankin
They may be bargains, but how many boxes of the (mostly) the same symphonies does one need? Let's see, there's big boxes of recordings by Bersnstein, Karajan (several from different labels), Toscanini, Furtwangler, Ashkenazy, Klemperer (over 9 smaller boxes), Abbado, Walter, and now Reiner. And I'm sure there's a bunch of others, too... Edited June 7, 2013 by alankin

Bigshot
They may be bargains, but how many boxes of the (mostly) the same symphonies does one need? The difference between the same symphony performed by Bernstein, Toscanini, Furtwangler and Klemperer can be huge.

I have definitely cut back on sets that are basically just Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak and perhaps Mahler. I am a bit more willing to get sets where there are particularly strong soloists in the concertos (why I ultimately got the Steinberg EMI box) and I still go for sets with lesser-known conductors (so the Russian Conductors sets are generally good as was the Silvestri EMI box). Definitely on the fence regarding the Reiner and will need more details. As far as the Heifetz, I have a fair bit of him in other formats, though I did get the Heifetz-Piatigorsky Concerts box, which seemed like a good compromise. There is some excellent music there!

There is some excellent music there!Yes, got that one as well - very nice! Also got the ICON (great! My favorite Heifetz, for sure!) and two of the Sony cheapo sets, namely the Great Violin Concertos annd the Beethoven (parts of it are in the Heifetz/Piatgorsky and most - nearly all, I think - of the rest is in the recent sonatas box, which I've not bought ... but it makes more sense to get that one and maybe pass on the Beethoven, I think ...) king ubu
Speaking of suckers no one really asked for .... what the hell is this? at 400+ euro it's not quite a bargain (88 discs) - Karajan 70: the Complete DG Recordings Hm, wait, there's another one that's cheaper: Karajan 1970s Dg Recording - but that one says 82 disc - but then, who cares anyway ... I might go for some cheapo opera box (since most of the ones I've heard were a bit too sporty and a bit of a let-down, no matter what praise they seem to get ... so a cheapo set would make more sense than to keep trying with single releases). But in a box such as this, I've not the slightest interest. Give me K when he's conducting for a soloist such as Christian Ferras or when he's at the helm of the Vienna Mozart opera crew (but then again, I'd take Furtwängler each time, but Legge didn't, alas), but I guess that's about it for me.
