king ubu Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 Whoah! Costs like ten percent of what I paid (not quite, but you get the idea) for the separate releases. What I've heard (about half of it, I think) sounded wonderful to me! Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Sony is issuing a complete Pierre Monteux box in December. Now the preorder on amazon.co.uk is under 60 pounds. Quote
bogdan101 Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 Janowski's first Ring cycle in a nice edition complete with libretti for under $ 17 : http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-Ring-Nibelungen-Richard/dp/B009EJSV2C/ Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 I guess Brilliant will keep revising this set: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mozart-Complete-Various-Artists/dp/B00L2SQVVQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1408548693&sr=1-2&keywords=mozart+brilliant+box Quote
Bigshot Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 I think the problem was that the old Mozart boxes had a defective disk on the 21st piano concerto. Not everyone discovered it in time to return the set. I went through three copies and then gave up. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 The Bach Brilliant box is also getting a do over. Quote

king ubu Posted August 25, 2014 Report Posted August 25, 2014 Ha, that thought about the librettos ... had that, too. They'd be in the DG box as well, but contrary to the Janowski Ring, that one mostly contains recordings I'm not interested in. As for other upcoming stuff, just stumbled over this one: No info around yet, it seems, but while I love Tebaldi, having the Decca Puccini operas box, I don't think I'll be buying this one (unless the price takes a substantial drop, that is). This has probably been mentioned, but the Reiner box is back again as well. Never considered it with any seriosity myself, though. Quote

crisp Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 How about this for non traditional? The price of this has dropped to just over £60 at Amazon UK. Quote
bogdan101 Posted September 30, 2014 Report Posted September 30, 2014 I think any of the boxes coming out now would qualify for this thread. Do you guys realize that, while the price of everything is steadily going up, the cream of the classical recorded catalogue can be had for unbelievably little money? This must be the best bargain in the world right now! Quote
mr jazz Posted October 1, 2014 Report Posted October 1, 2014 Any thoughts on the Van Cliburn complete album collection box? i saw one at a good price. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 1, 2014 Report Posted October 1, 2014 I have it. I like it. I'm not a cognoscenti by any stretch of the imagination, but I like the performances and the sound. Great value imo. Quote
