This is a case where I'm proud to run with the herd. Sign me up to that list Uncle Skid! I've had the Blue Mitchell set for ages and enjoy it from start to finish. Nothing wrong with the last disc as far as I can see. Essential jazz.

Don't do that, Uncle Skid!  I hate running with the herd!  ;)

what are you, Brer Moose? :P

There's just something about running at top speed knowing that somebody's antlers are about that far from your ass that makes ya nervous, ya know? ;)

strange, I just talked to mosaic this morning and they said that there are 272 of the blue mitchell set left and 212 of the atlantic new orleans set.

Does this mean that Mosaic do not send the boxes out in number order ?

As it looks as if we are getting them around about the 3500 region so there should be 1500 left ??

Thanks - I assumed because that it was Blue Note the 'timed out' issue wouldnt apply.

Just shows i shouldn't assume about things i know nothing about!

Now i think of it didnt the Larry Young time out as well?

Its been my experience that they do not ship in strict numerical order. Anyway, someone reported that on January 9th, they contacted Mosaic and there were 200 sets left. They were selling at the rate of 30 sets per day. Doesn't leave much time left so...............................

I don't think it means that there are physically 1500 left. I don't think they print all 5,000 (or whatever) at once. They go through various printings depending on the demand and only have so many in stock at any one time.

Set # 3561 arrived today. It's much better than I expected, I had only the first three sessions on individual CDs, and the larger ensembles are the real winner for me; great arrangements, good groove! They should have called it "The complete Blue Note Blue Mitchell - Junior Cook sessions", as it was their co-lead band, and cook plays great throughout, I've never heard him better. :tup

Agree with your comment on Junior Cook, Mike. This set was my introduction to him and I'm now ready to hear some more. Suggestions, anyone?

Horace Silver's BLOWIN' THE BLUES AWAY is one good starting place.

How could I forget about that one...?!

Yeah, I've got 'Blowin the Blues Away' and probably a few others where Junior appears as a sideman. What about sessions where he was leader? Suggestions?
