.:.impossible Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Just got word that this amazing bassist has passed away. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornell_Dupree Wiki has already updated. Quote
kh1958 Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 (edited) You mean, guitarist. He lived (or used to live) in Dallas, I think. But I almost never saw his name as performing live here, except for two occasions long ago, when I saw him play with a group co-led by David Newman and James Clay, and one other time, with Marchel Ivery's group. He was really enjoyable both times. Edited May 9, 2011 by kh1958 Quote
JSngry Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 The man's imprint is significant, and huge. RIP. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 ... and he could play straightahead in a convincing personal style, too. I have a trio CD with John Clayton and Harvey mason that would be a nice blindfold test item. R.I.P. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 One of my heroes of the 'seventies from his work with Stuff, and a few of this own lps. RIP Cornell! Quote
sidewinder Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 Sorry to hear this. Didn't he also record with Miles? ('Red China Blues' I think) Quote
alankin Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 I always liked Carla Bley's "Dinner Music", which had Stuff for the rhythm section. Quote
Harold_Z Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Sad news. I first saw Cornell in the early 60s with King Curtis and have seen him literally dozens of times. He was one of a kind - a true standout in his field. Quote
