jonathanhorwich Posted September 29, 2014 Author Report Posted September 29, 2014 Thanks. If Amazon UK sold any of my earlier releases then it will sell Tapscott. The distributor either has a relationship with UK Amazon or not. Not sure myself. Let me know if they did sell earlier reissues of mine and if so you're in luck. If not, I'll contact my distributor after you let me know. Thanks. Quote
dougcrates Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Hey Jonathan, I can advise that Amazon Canada does not have a listing for the Tapscott but they did sell your previous releases. Quote

I can't remember whether I bought your previous releases through UK Amazon, but the only one currently showing on their site is the 'Clare Fisher - Extension'. Quote
Late Posted September 30, 2014 Report Posted September 30, 2014 As soon as importCDs lists The Giant Is Awakened, I'm ordering. I'm a little surprised it isn't up for pre-order yet. Quote
Daniel A Posted September 30, 2014 Report Posted September 30, 2014 'Flute Fever' also has a listing at Amazon UK. I got it there (but from a Marketplace seller, which seems to be cheaper for most titles). Quote
jonathanhorwich Posted October 1, 2014 Author Report Posted October 1, 2014 Thanks for all of this guys. I'll check with my distributor on Amazon UK. Not sure what our relationship is with them. I know in the U.S. we always appear here. Quote
Late Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 Dusty Groove now carries The Giant Is Awakened ... but importCDs doesn't. (I've purchased all previous JLH reissues through importCDs with no problem.) Amazon is waiting until October 21st for release. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 And presumably that is when importCDs will have it. Quote
Late Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 And presumably that is when importCDs will have it. Though they usually have stuff up a month or so ahead of time for pre-order. Quote
jlhoots Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 Less expensive (so far) at Dusty Groove. Quote
Leeway Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 Not listed anymore on DG website. Must have sold out. Quote
colinmce Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 I'm no business person, but they seem to only buy a couple copies of CDs they ought to know they'll sell a load of. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 DG is in Chicago, JLH is in Chicago. Worry not. Quote
romualdo Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Still no mention of "The Giant…" on Import CDs though it's available through Amazon US & UK, Dusty Groove (currently OOS), Downtown Music Gallery & even Ebay I've bought all of Jonathan's previous releases through them & the CDs have all been advertised weeks before release date - wonder what's happening here DMG lists it as a limited edition of 1000 copies!! - more hype or is that the case Jonathan? jazzbo Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Got mine, a beautiful release. Haven't spun it yet, but will soon. Quote
Head Man Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Mine's on it's way from Amazon UK via one of their resellers. Looking forward to hearing this...... Quote
jlhoots Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Got mine, a beautiful release. Haven't spun it yet, but will soon. Mine arrived too - from Amazon US. Quote
Leeway Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) I was given an Amazon gift certificate so I used it to order the Tapscott yesterday from Amazon. Not going to wait on this one. Edited October 25, 2014 by Leeway Quote
erwbol Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 I might also order this from Amazon US, but I would prefer Importcds. Quote
felser Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) I picked up the Jeremy Steig, it's great, and I had never heard it, thanks so much! I also have the Julius Hemphill, which is also wonderful. Look forward to the other releases, which I hope to come by over time. The Tapscott is a seminal session. I own the West Coast Hot CD which contains that album plus Bradford-Carter tracks, but would really like to upgrade, and your release represents a major quiality upgrade. And I think I certainly need to check out the Bill Dixon, which I have also never heard. And the Carter-Bradford. Can anyone give me a reference point on the Clare Fischer, so I would have an idea what it would be like? It must be really good, but I'm not sure what to expect. colinmce Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 I'll say this: I would never bother with the Fischer if Jonathan hadn't put it out and I hadn't read his take on the session. On the face of it, it's maybe more or less what you'd expect from a mid-size Pacific Jazz date from the early 60s. It's airy, melodic, concise. I don't have a great ear for the subtleties, but I take Jonathan at his word that what's happening is unique. It's certainly not at ALL boring or by the numbers. So, as a person who doesn't listen to a ton of stuff like this, I get a lot out of it and am pretty well enraptured when listening to it. That says a lot. Of course, the package is gorgeous, too. I would fully recommend it. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 The Fischer is awesome. I agree, I probably wouldn't have picked one up were it not for Jonathan's involvement. Quote
JSngry Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Imagine the Fischer as being the type of album Gil Evans could have made if his primary collaborator had been Lennie Tristano instead of Miles Davis. That's a gross oversimplification, but start from there and see where it goes. Quote
