Chrome Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 Does anyone have any input on this CD? I've got Wilson's first two and like them very much. But on this, she wrote lyrics to Davis' tunes, right? How does that come off? Are the lyrics any good? Quote
jazzbo Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 I need to dig this one out again and listen to it soon. I don't even remember any of the lyrics! But I do like the cd, I think there are some very good performances on this cd from Cassandra and her backing musicians. Quote
Alexander Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 I enjoy it. The opening track, a version of "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down," is amazing... Quote
Morganized Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 I have not really been too keen on her more recent work, Belly of the sun and new one Glamour, but this one I like along with her early work. Blue Light Till Dawn, etc. Traveling Miles is very unique in some was. She brings a lot of respect to the tunes. It is worth checking out IMO. Not for everyone but there is some good stuff here. chuckyd4 Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 I also thought that first track was amazing. I still spin that one on a regular basis... though I wasn't sure the rest of the album lived up to that killer opening. Quote
medjuck Posted January 8, 2004 Report Posted January 8, 2004 (edited) I listened to this a lot when it first came out. Really liked it and found that it increased my enjoyment of the original versions by Miles-- though she doesn't always reference those versions. Her recording stands on its own and seemed to me to be more of a piece than her more recent cds. Edited January 8, 2004 by medjuck Quote
montg Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 I like this one too. I think Stefon Harris guests on Seven Steps and it really swings. The Cyndi Lauper song Time after Time...well, I really like it (Cassandra's version, that is). Quote
Bright Moments Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 it's worth getting just to listen to regina carter! Quote
