Free For All Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 CNN Damn, this looks nasty. Everybody OK? Quote
jazzbo Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 I'm not sure I'd call myself "Okay" but there's no fires near me. It's awful, and I wish the best to anyone near the fires. Quote
kh1958 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Dallas is not on fire, but the air looks foul and smoky to the west, looking out of my office. Quote
jlhoots Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Fires here in New Mexico too. None near our home. Quote
JSngry Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 As always, Plano is not at all affected by anything natural. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Yeah, Austin got hit with an accidental fire the other day, set by a transient cooking breakfast over an open flame (apparently). They are charging him with arson, even though it was unintentional and he is being very cooperative. Typical level of "respect" from our "fair" law enforcement down here. Anyway, unfortunate that there has been such a loss of property/livelihood because of these fires. Going to Houston this weekend instead of West Texas. Quote
Aggie87 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 We went camping last weekend on Lake Mathis, and there were burn bans in effect everywhere. Severe drought conditions and very dry wood and brush everywhere makes for a seriously dangerous situation. I'm guessing it's just a matter of time before water rationing (at least for lawn watering) kicks in again. Quote

Joe Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Sadly, Possum Kingdom State Park, one of the more scenic areas in North Central Texas, has been almost entirely consumed in these wildfires. This is bad, almost as bad as Southern California in 2007, when much of Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and San Diego counties were on fire during a good chunk of October. I had to self-evacuate to Long Beach for about a week. Quote

jlhoots Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 There's a fire here in the state that they're calling the "tire fire". Apparently started when someone blew a tire while driving, & the sparks set off the fire. Quote
