jazzbo Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 I've heard it. It pretty much sounds like the Collectable cds. Quote
king ubu Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 ...with four more tracks (13-16 - these could be from the Karl Drewo album - anyone with more info on them?) ... 13. My favourite things 14. Just give me time 15. Keep on keeping on 16. Wives and lovers Looks as they're from Drevo's "Swing, Waltz, Swing" indeed. That whole album was reissued in 2008 by Rearward/Schema/Edizioni Ishtar. It's pretty nice (as is Drevo's other CB-related album, "Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie" (reissued by the same outfit earlier - my CD gives no year, but with RW105 as a catalogue nummer, it must have been among their earliest reissues, also it comes in regular a jewel case, opposed to the later cardboard boxes with booklet of jewel-case size and the most recent digipacks). Head Man Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys. My order's in! Edited May 23, 2011 by Head Man Quote
sidewinder Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Strange that I came across the LP of 'Faces' this weekend. That one has eluded me to date. I have it on video somewhere though (I think) - if it's the same session that resulted in much of the footage for the German (or was it Swiss?) TV tribute to Gigi Cambi. Maybe The King knows this one? Quote

Thanks - that confirms what I thought. Since I already have the two CBBB albums on Collectables or Koch Jazz CDs but don't have the two Drewo CDs, I'll go for the latter. Quote

I have it on video somewhere though (I think) - if it's the same session that resulted in much of the footage for the German (or was it Swiss?) TV tribute to Gigi Cambi. Maybe The King knows this one? The Campi film? That was great! I think it was on the German/French arte TV channel - and I think I don't have it on DVD, just watched it when it was on... would love to catch it again, the interviews with all the guys (Johnny Griffin!) and the music - it was great to watch AND liste for a change! Got to dig through my DVDs to see if I might have it... @Mike: good decision! I'm in no position to confirm 100% the provenance of the four bonus tracks, but as Jazz Lips is one of these annoying outfits that thinks a CD is only valuable if it clocks in at least at 79:45, it's very unlikely they offer anything rare or special there... the two Drevo/Drewo (I deliberately chose the other spelling above so a search would still bring this thread up) albums are both fine, the first one has him with 'bones and rhythm backing, the second has the full CBBB backing him. mikeweil Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 I suppose y'all have this DVD with an hour-long performance recorded for Czech TV? Sound is good, video too - the band in full-blown action. Quote
king ubu Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Another bootleg, methinks... must have audio of it, but never saw the DVD. Though if it's 1967-10-22, my audio version is 75 minutes! What I do have is the CBBB episode of "Jazz gehört & gesehen" (Köln, 1969-01-16) The "Faces" footage, btw... there seems to be a version from Zurich, Switzerland indeed, I have 43 minutes from May 1970, with some note about "Hazyland" (whatever that was, probably connected to Hazy Osterwald?). Again, I only have audio of it, alas. Quote

It's in German with no subtitles and is one of those films which has me kicking myself that my German is not better than being able to order a beer.. Quote

The Italian Schema/Rearward label should start releasing DVDs of the CBBB material! Edited May 24, 2011 by mikeweil Quote
king ubu Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 My Prague version looks like this: 1. Ann; 2. My Favourite Things; 3. Ann GC; 4. Griff's Groove; 5. Box 703, Washington D.C.; 6. Ann GC; 7. Here The Good Wind Comes; 8. Nights In Warsaw; 9. Ann GC; 10. What a Regal Aspect Yet Retains; 11. Ramo de flores; 12. Ann GC; 13. I Don't Want Nothin'; 14. The Turk; 15./16. An Thence We Issued Out Again To See; 17. Appl; 18. Box 703; 19. Ann Sorry for the awkward formatting... it might just be talk and announcements that they cut short, who knows. Don't have that disc at hand, but it needs some work anyway... my list says it's 75 min. Quote
mikeweil Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 Ann = announcements? Then the tracks are all there. I will have to view it once more this evening to tell whether the Gigi Campi announcements are in the video or not. Will report. Quote

Not sure if these are live on stage announcements, radio or tv host talk or whatever... would have to dig up the disc to check. Quote

Gigi Campi does make announcements on that Prague DVD (Francy Boland being the epitome of 'understated', I don't think he liked doing intros). Essential CBBB ! Edited May 24, 2011 by sidewinder Quote
king ubu Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Ok, guess I have to hunt for that CDR... maybe the timing in my list is just off by a few minutes, or the speed is different. Quote
Daniel A Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Astonishingly, all the 2011 MPS reissues are already out of print. I realized this when trying to get a copy of 'Faces' which is nowhere to be found. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) Two new Rearward releases I'm not sure have been mentioned: Francy Boland Playing With The Trio Clarke Boland Sextet Marcel Marceau Praesentiert Swing Im Bahnhof Edited October 17, 2013 by jazzbo Quote
mikeweil Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 According to the German JazzEcho pages, Faces is still in print .... otoh JPC lists it with a delivers time of 3-4 weeks, which is not a good sign. Rearward releases a trio session from February 19, 1967: Quote
jazzbo Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Yes, see my post above. Also a sextet session. Quote
king ubu Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Thanks for sharing! I was aware but tend to quickly forget again ... will have to get both eventually (and a few more from Rearward, both Clarke/Boland and others). Quote

Daniel A Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Thanks for mentioning the Rearward releases. Has the trio session been released elsewhere before, or is this previously unissued? Haven't been able to figure that out from info on the web. Quote

Looks like the Trio tracks are taken from the German Vogue 2LP 'Jazz Joint Vol 1 - Going Classic'. I have a copy of that one - recommended. Edited October 18, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
