mjzee Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 For those interested, there's an interview with Creed Taylor in today's Wall St Journal (or at least it's in the online edition). I'll post a link to it tomorrow if someone else doesn't do it first. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) Nice article. Here it is http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703730104576260903900205990.html I know Creed is not happy with how Sony is issuing the CTI stuff. Edited April 15, 2011 by CJ Shearn Quote
Christiern Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 This could have been an interesting interview, but Marc Myers' questions and lack of follow-up (when the answer cries out for one) reflect the gutless disc-jockey approach of old. For example, the large signature explanation was really too lame. I remember that there was talk about Creed having on his office wall awards that belonged in Coltrane's possession. But, of course, John Hammond did that sort of thing, too. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 I still don't understand Creed's motivation to overdub session musicians like Steve Gadd who is as great as some of the players on the live dates on albums like "George Benson In Concert: At Carnegie Hall" and my personal fav. "CTI Summer Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl" which I'm listening to now. Actually Richard Seidel is looking at the legal ramifications of that 1972 Hollywood Bowl concert, it's my theory that since Sony has been using the original masters for these reissues, the original tapes lay untouched somewhere. Actually Seidel is pushing to get the entire 1973 Freddie Hubbard/Turrentine "In Concert" sessions released, of which there is enough material for 2 CD's, to fill out the original LP's. Quote
