king ubu Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 (edited) they're used to transcribe ... those lazy in c guys should learn that, too but none are worse than trombone players, I'm sure Free for All would agree Edited March 5, 2013 by king ubu Quote
Joe Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 Latest FB post from Tom: Chet Baker got him his first gig in NY. Early '70s at Stryker's, w/Bob Berg, and Joe Jones Jr. Group was called Jazz Express. I'm enjoying these glances back at jazz history. Keep 'em coming Tom! And Joe, if you're interested the entire albums of Aurora and Sail Away are on youtube. Also a beautiful unaccompanied take on Joyspring from Helen Merrill's Brownie CD (dedicated to Clifford Brown). Excellent! Thanks for the tip. Quote
fasstrack Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 An NPR broadcast of an hour-long set of Tom's group Colors of a Dream. Village Vanguard, last week of March: http://www.npr.org/event/music/174986548/tom-harrells-colors-of-a-dream-live-at-the-village-vanguard Quote
six string Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Thanks for that link fasstrack. I'm listening to it now. I've been a fan of Harrell's from a long time but only got to see him once at the SF Jazz festival where he played in the Grace Cathedral which is quite an interesting venue because of it's acoustics. I've never heard a Tom Harrell album that I didn't like. The quality of both his playing and writing are very high. Quote
