What is this? I can find no info anywhere on the net, and there are no copies on Amazon.

The listing states:

"There are six albums included on the cd's all issued from emi including Chet Baker Lee Konitz and Gerry Mulligan,John Lewis/Bill Perkins, Jim Hall, Gil Evans (2) all never used."

Have these all been subsequently released on standalone CDs? Do they appear in this box as individual albums (w/ their own artwork, etc) or just as a collection?

I remember this set. If I recall it was a 12" box containing three 2cd cases. I used to have the Gil Evans. The individual boxes came up second hand from time to time. There was nothing there that did not become easily available later (or maybe even at the time). I may be wrong but I don't believe the original artwork was used and the notes were minimal. But it was definitely a proper issue.

EMI recently reissued the Hall and Lewis/Perkins. I have the former and it sounds fantastic. Maybe they'll reissue all the items that were in this box. That would be the way to go; I think the recent EMI reissues sound great.

I used to see the CD box at Blue Note Records in Miami, was tempted but the lack of info on the box kept me from buying it. Now that I know what was on it I am glad I didn't ever pull the trigger. I might have wanted if it was some sort of comp of rare cuts or something but six full CDs that had domestic reissues? Nothing to see here.

EMI Japan, or who did?

Too bad I just bought the old US disc of Kamuca/Perkins, then... awww... I'm aware of some Japanese reissues recently (got the Les McCann with Frank Haynes & Stanley Turrentine!) but hadn't been aware of a "good" reissue of "Jazz Guitar" - does it offer the same restoration job (full versions wherever possible, all tunes included) as did the Gambit reissue (that for once, seemed to be the best way to get it so far - I only got a rip-off of it...)

There is a 2nd volume, Pacific Jazz Collection II which I have. It has Gerry Mulligan-Mulligan Vol.1, Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker- Mulligan-Baker,Bud Shank-Bud Plays Tenor, Bob Brookmeyer-Streetswingers, The Richard Twardzik & Russ Freeman Trios, and Chico Hamilton-Spectacular Ane More.

The US "Tenors Head On" cd has additional material not on the Japanese so rejoice.

I haven't compared the Hall to the original release, don't have the Gambit. I'm less concerned about those sort of things these days. I believe the Japanese release is the original lp release as was issued.

what do you mean with the lewis/perkins? 2° east 3° west? if it's that it' very, very good. i got it recently in a cheap japanese edition (it was on my wants list for a long time) and it's brilliant. i don't know why i didn't get it earlier, because it' very good. but i didn't know it had been reissued here.

together with john lewis and bill perkins it also has percy heath, chico hamilton and jim hall on board. it's called grand encounter, meaning between two east coast men and three from the west coast.
