PHILLYQ Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 When oh when is karma gonna rise up and smack Lance Berkman in the mouth? I'm a Yankee fan and I'd like to see him not win- he always seemed so damn smug. He can hit, though. LaRussa is another I can't take a liking to- he acts like he invented baseball and the sporting media genuflect whenever he speaks. If any other manager caught a DUI they'd be calling for his heaf, but LaRussa slides. Quote

Jim R Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Seriously, the minute Fox put up that bottom of the 9th inning graphic showing the Cubs, Indians and then (gulp) Rangers as the baseball franchises that have gone the longest without a championship, I had a feeling bad things were about to happen. I actually felt the opposite, especially since the Giants won it all last year and took themselves off the dreaded list... and Texas was the team they beat... and because it seemed obvious (several times) that Texas was going to win that game. Yes, but the Giants were up 3 games to 1 at that point. In the words of my 3 year-old niece, "Daddy, no more baseball." Quote

Which dreaded list would that be? They won a World Series in NY with the Say Hey kid. Same franchise, different city. Quote

If any other manager caught a DUI they'd be calling for his heaf, but LaRussa slides. I've never liked LaRussa- even when he was here with the A's, and I'm no Cardinals fan. On the other hand, it's hard for me to pull for the Rangers when I see Dubya in the house. Oh well, give me another game like last night's, and it doesn't really matter who I'm rooting for. Quote

He looked for all the world last year like a guy who was just playing out the string. Maybe they should have let him play right field. Actually...as I heard it during the last off-season, Berkman was wanting to return to regular field play, that's what motivated him to return to the NL. Didn't really like the whole DH thing. Quote

Yes, but the Giants were up 3 games to 1 at that point. I just meant that since the Giants finally got off the list last year and Texas was knocking on the door, that they might be next. The list I'm referring to is the list of franchises that have waited the longest to win a World Series. At 56 years, the Giants were high on that list, until November of 2010. Quote

I'm not sure he was actually ever healthy with the Yankees, either. Seems to have regained the form that made him the centerpiece of the Astros after Biggio & Bagwell's retirements. Quote
ghost of miles Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 I'll be pulling for the Rangers. It would cap an incredible comeback story for the Cards if they win tonight, but I'd really like to see Texas pick up its first-ever WS title. Quote

Knowing that you have a choice as to where you would spend your rooting mojo this evening, I thank you for that. For real. Come to Texas sometimes and I'll take you to a game. My treat. The Ballpark is truly a splendid place, and the ushers do say "thank you" when you leave. Bring a pea-shooter & I'll spend the extra bucks to get us in p-tooeying distance of W.! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 I hate the commentary. Fox has the most idiot A holes. Quote
Neal Pomea Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 I hate the commentary. Fox has the most idiot A holes. Pre-game commentators, or Buck and McCarver? I appreciate that the World Series has less hype than the Super Bowl, which is presented like it's Doomsday or something, and with coverage all day long. Does not seem to take itself as seriously as the NFL. It's not World Series CVII either! Quote
Van Basten II Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 No pitching duel tonight, it will be more of a war of attrition... Quote

Van Basten II Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 And obviously , the next thing after I wrote that, both pitchers have their easiest inning ... Quote
mattes Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 I'm sick of the Fox World Series monopoly, but used to it by this point in the series. Home run by Allen Craig. We're in the 14th inning of last night's game! Quote
Neal Pomea Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) After last night, and barring an unlikely blowout, I won't conclude that the game's over until it actually is! It will probably be hard to believe this one is over. I am so proud of both teams! And you cannot say that every year. Edited October 29, 2011 by Neal Pomea Quote
Big Al Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Cardinals left too many on base last night, but you gotta hand it to the Rangers' pitching staff and clutch hitting by Napoli, even if the wrong Cardinal pitcher was in the game. Advantage now with Texas, which hasn't lost two games in a row in quite a while. Was thinking about that on the way to work this morning, and I can't help but think the Cards have the advantage now for the following convoluted reasons: 1) I don't see them losing three in a row 2) I'm even less certain Texas WINS three in a row 3) If the Cards win Wednesday, that shifts the momentum back to them 4) In their backyard in front of THEIR frenzied fans 5) Starting pitching continues to be the big (no, FREAKIN HUMONGOUS) question mark, moreso for the Rangers than the Cards Did I mention how much I hate being right for all the wrong reasons? grrrrr Quote
Noj Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Anticlimactic to see this decided by walks. One more rally, Rangers? Quote
Neal Pomea Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) You take Berkman out in the top of the 9th? Hope you don't regret it! edit: Game over! I vote Berkman MVP!!! I feel so bad for the Rangers! Maybe they'll win next year? Edited October 29, 2011 by Neal Pomea Quote
Brad Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Well, I guess it wasn't meant to be. Feel bad for Ron Washington. So close but .... Sorry Jim Quote
Free For All Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Very happy for the Cards and their fans, but I feel so bad for the Rangers & fans- they came SOOOO close and had it slip away. Ouch. A very exciting but strange series. Certainly was fun to watch! Quote
