Larry Kart Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Just got this email from a friend, who lives in Larchmont, N.Y. Has anyone here had a similar experience? Some time ago I ordered "Anita O'Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer" from Netflix. It arrived cracked. So I returned it and requested another--which also arrived cracked. So I returned it and requested another--which also arrived cracked. I have now ordered and received DVDs of this movie SIX times and all SIX have arrived cracked. Isn't that bizarre. I have reported each one to Netflix, the last three by telephone--the last time the customer representative said she would order the DVD from a depot in Maine rather than the depot in Hartford which had sent the others. But it arrived cracked anyway. I find the whole thing so odd. Quote
Shawn Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Somehow a damaged batch got sent to Netflix, that's the only thing that makes sense. I've bought brand new DVDs that were cracked and had to be returned. Quote
Christiern Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 I think Shawn has cracked this case. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Get your cable company to add Ovation to your package. They've been running the movie pretty regularly. Quote
DukeCity Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Could it be that the depot in your region has just the one cracked copy, and they keep sending it to you? Quote
Shawn Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 I just added it to my Netflix queue, we'll see if they have any better copies in Texas... Quote
Free For All Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Could it be that the depot in your region has just the one cracked copy, and they keep sending it to you? Just like the Johnny Carson holiday fruitcake. Quote

Free For All Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 Damn, those Johnny cakes look tasty! I may have to try that. Quote
Stereojack Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 I rented the movie from Netflix a year ago - my copy was fine. I wonder if there may be a manufacturing defect that makes some of these discs especially fragile. I can't believe that anyone at Netflix would be stupid enough to keep sending the same cracked disc six times! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 I have now ordered and received DVDs of this movie SIX times and all SIX have arrived cracked. That sounds like a cruel joke someone someone from Netflix is playing on your friend. Or that your friend is playing on them! Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Could it be that the depot in your region has just the one cracked copy, and they keep sending it to you? Netflix actually did that to me once. The disc had a scratch, and they kept sending me the same disc--because the scratch was exactly the same on each "copy". Quote
