Dan Gould Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Is it possible now to reopen the steroid debate as it concerns the long-delayed but finally upon us Barry Bonds perjury trial? So far we've heard from Bonds' former friend and business partner who stated that out of concern for Bonds' health he tried to get him to stop taking steroids and in particular, since his father didn't believe he was taking PEDs, secretly recorded a conversation with the infamous trainer. That tape was admitted into evidence by the judge even though Anderson has again refused to testify, so the jury did hear Anderson speak of giving Bonds "undetectable" steroids and how he varied the location of the shots. He also testified that Bonds directed him to research the effects of Winstrol, which certainly demonstrates an interest in steroids at the time of the conversation. According to the Times this former friend held up against a withering cross-examination about his business dealings with Barry, but you never know how a jury views what the defense asserts about the relationship, regardless of denials from the witness. Can't wait to see what else they have to establish that Bonds knew he was using and therefore committed perjury when asked before the Grand Jury. Quote

Dave James Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 I love the fact that Bonds and his crew claim that if he did take steroids, he did so unknowingly. Let me get this straight. HIs lawyers are asking us to believe that when his hat size went from five to ten gallons, his feet grew several sizes and he put on 30 pounds of muscle all in a couple of years that he didn't stop to wonder WTF was happening? Come on. I know he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but no one can be that dull. Quote

Unless you're 20-something, it has happened any human being past the age of 30. No need to re-hash the re-hash.I patiently await any real proof that Bonds knowingly took steroids. That is the charge. Noj Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 I patiently await reason why they're seeking to punish the steroid users after they helped baseball regain its popularity following the '94 strike. The games were played, the runs scored, the outs recorded, the results tallied, the tv and ticket revenues exchanged hands, the players were paid, the fans lined the seats and cheered...what sacred records are they trying to "rescue" now which they didn't give a rat's ass about while those records were being broken? Average, semi-informed baseball fans like me knew guys like McGwire were juicing. The whole frigging league was juiced, from squids like Brady Anderson to the tightened laces on the pill. This trial is as pointless and wasteful the Bill Clinton perjury trial. The whole steroid thing should have been policed internally by MLB. Instead they turned a blind eye on it and cashed in on it until it made them look bad, then they go after the players for it like the whole system wasn't complicit. Quote

Tim McG Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) Photoshop is not proof, Dave. Don't waste my time. Again, I patiently await proof that Bond knowingly took steroids. That is the charge against him. Edited March 27, 2011 by GoodSpeak Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 27, 2011 Author Report Posted March 27, 2011 We already have Greg Anderson's taped voice talking about moving the injection sites around Bonds' body. One of the perjury charges is that only his doctor has ever given him injections. So, right there is strong evidence that he committed perjury - and there are going to be other witnesses talking about injections by Anderson. There will also be testimony by many other ballplayers who were also clients of BALCO and Greg Anderson. They are expected to talk in great detail about what Anderson told them about "the cream" and "the clear", that they were designer steroids, etc etc. The clear implication for the jury will be that Anderson was equally forthright with his childhood friend, Bonds. The lack of testimony from Anderson may be equally as damaging to Bonds as it has already been to the prosecution. If Anderson could state under oath that he never told Bonds what he was giving him, why didn't the defense put him on the stand? The jury isn't supposed to draw any conclusions from Anderson's absence, but really, how can anyone think that they won't? Its human nature. Quote

Still in denial? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6266163 No, no. This is a lost leader. You see, first it's "he didn't take roids/hgh," followed by "even if someone did slip him something while he wasn't looking, they don't do anything anyways," followed eventually by "the witnesses aren't credible" and then, finally, culminating in "the entire justice system is a joke. I'm moving to France." Bonds took roids/hgh. That's pretty obvious. He admits it, doesn't he? Only question is, did he knowingly take them. We'll find out what the judgment of a jury is on that. But I doubt the outcome, should it go against him, will convince his defender(s). Quote
PHILLYQ Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 It's a two part case. First is to prove he took steroids, second that he knew it was steroids. Quote
Tim McG Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 An injection schedule is not proof of steroid use. It is, however, proof of using an injectable substance heretofore yet to proved Bonds knew it was steriods or not. Good luck with that. A waste of taxpayer money. GA Russell Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 This trial is as pointless and wasteful the Bill Clinton perjury trial. Noj, I think it's hard to have a trial system of justice if people don't take perjury seriously. Quote

I recall someone, somewhere around here saying that steroids have no effect on a hitter's physical abilities. And I recall someone slamming prosecutors at just about every turn leading up to the trial. And, correct me if I'm mistaken, but an essential part of Bonds' defense is to discredit the witnesses testifying against him (naturally). I'm just glad they disallowed testimony from his former mistress about the size of his shrinking balls. Quote
