Those eyes. My word. I can't say I was a huge fan of her work outside of "Cat" and "A Place In The Sun", but she was certainly as iconic as they come. Another piece of old Hollywood takes their leave. R.I.P.

Its too bad so many people today think of her for her friendship with Michael, or her marriages, her weight problems or her general residence on the front pages of the tabloids. In fact, because I didn't grow up with her famous for anything other than those things, my very first thought wasn't about her eyes or her movie roles but of John Belushi, in a dress, being interviewed by Bill Murray on SNL about her new "all-chicken" diet.

Well I happened to grow up when she did, saw all the movies she made, liked her as a kid, loved her as a young woman (that is from afar like millions of us hot blooded males) and followed the rest of her life as a woman and caring person. May she rest in peace now.

Her presence in the media sometime made her look like a gigantic pain but she seemed to have quite a lot of support from fellow actors and friends. She was a beauty and managed to remain beautiful for most of her career.

My favorite film with her was 'Suddenly Last Summer' where she was mesmerizing!

In 1981, I took a friend out to dinner for his birthday. He had never been to the Russian Tearoom, so that's where we went. My friend was/is a big Elizabeth Taylor fan, so imagine how perfect my little birthday gift became when she entered and was seated at the next table. Other big celebrities were dining there, but all eyes turned to Ms. Taylor when she walked in, and I think they remained there. She was appearing on Broadway in The Little Foxes.

Great movie! Tennessee Williams story. Performances by her, Montgomery Clift, and Katherine Hepburn? Unforgettable!

So beautiful that year! Can't thank her enough for her work. Virginia Woolf? Impossible acting.

Growing up I knew about the marriages, National Velvet and the blown budget Cleopatra. Sometime in my early 20s I saw Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? and was blown away by her performance. She had talent...

I can say the same, except I was in my forties, and the movie was Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

RIP, Liz. We'll miss you.

I'm waiting for Allen to make an appearance and say, Now she'll be reunited forever with the great love of her life, Eddie Fisher.

O.K. I just officially spun off my axis. File this under "G" for gorgeous. That's about five beautiful womens-worth of good looks.

No doubt ... Wow

"There's a reason we compare the greatest screen actors to stars: The light they emit endures in our vision long after the bodies that projected it have faded or even disappeared. Elizabeth Taylor the living, breathing woman is gone, but all the Elizabeth Taylors she ever was seem likely to live on forever."

I loved her in "Suddenly Last Summer" - what an amazing and great film!

Also "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" is a fine film.

Not too much of a fan otherwise, never cared to catch much of her later stuff...

She outlived her primary NY Times obituary author.

Growing up I knew about the marriages, National Velvet and the blown budget Cleopatra. Sometime in my early 20s I saw Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? and was blown away by her performance. She had talent and as Dan says, it's kind of a shame all of the "celebrity stuff" is better known.

Yeah, the only exposure I had to her before I reached adulthood was seeing 'those magazines' at the grocery store. All I knew was that she was weird and Eddie Fisher had to be the biggest loser on the planet...

As mentioned above, not only was she a great beauty, but she was a great actress. I never felt she was right for Cleopatra, and even as a kid I knew that "Cleopatra" was not "the way it was" and such a non-Greek Cleopatra as portrayed by ET was not quite right, but I always wished she were in every 'fifties and 'sixties "Biblical Epics" I've ever seen.

not so sure about her abilities as an actress- I always think of the line by Peter O'Toole in My Favorite Year -

"I AM NOT AN ACTOR - I AM A MOVIE STAR!"
