Johnny E Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Hi all, Reptet has been offered gigs on the same night at these two Brooklyn venues but we can't be in two places at once. They both seem like very nice places and the people are very cool, but since we don't know the Brooklyn scene real well (and our Brooklyn based friends, The Tiptons are on tour in Europe and unavailable for option) I thought I ask if anyone knows the Brooklyn scene and can answer this question for us? Which would be the mo' better place for Reptet on a Saturday night: Café Orwell 247 Varet St (between White St & Bogart St) Brooklyn, NY 11206 Neighborhoods: Bushwick, East Williamsburg or Goodbye Blue Monday 1087 Broadway (between Lawton St & Dodworth St) Brooklyn, NY 11221 Neighborhoods: Bushwick, Bedford Stuyvesant Thanks Ya'll! medjuck Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 My son who hangs out in Brooklyn says he's never heard of Good -Bye Blue Monday but that Cafe Orwell is a small coffee house where he's been but didn't know they ever had music. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Just polled four friends. One says he's never heard of either of them. Quote
Johnny E Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 Well, we're playing at The Stone in Manhattan on May 8th. We'll be playing one of the above mentioned places on the 7th. Full lit of dates forthcoming. -jOh yeah, Peter - we're playin' at Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philly on May 6th. Quote
Johnny E Posted March 17, 2011 Author Report Posted March 17, 2011 We corresponded for a while but couldn't find a date that worked for both us and the club. Thanks for the hook-up, but unfortunately it's not gonna work out this time around. Quote
Free For All Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Goodbye Blue Monday Breakfast of Champions, maybe my favorite Vonnegut book. Quote
7/4 Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 I've been to both these places...Café Orwell on a Friday night was a pretty hopping place. GBM on a Monday was kinda quiet, but Mondays are pretty much like that anywhere. I'd play Café Orwell, in fact I'd like to do just that sometime. Quote
.:.impossible Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Maybe The Camel then. Also a great venue. Let me see what I can do. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Yo Johnny--new dispatch: They aren't that different from what I know. GBM is older & more established...and more scrubby. Cafe Orwell is newer and probably more clean. That's all I've got. Let me know which one it is and we'll try to catch the show. Quote

Patrick Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Anywhere south of Philly? Say in our nation's capital?? Quote
Johnny E Posted March 25, 2011 Author Report Posted March 25, 2011 Anywhere south of Philly? Say in our nation's capital?? I'm sorry, we couldn't make a Southern dip work this time. Quote
