ghost of miles Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Hey all, the most recent Night Lights show, Mary Osborne: Queen Of The Jazz Guitar is now posted for online listening. It includes many of Osborne's 1940s recordings as a leader and with Mary Lou Williams, Beryl Booker, and the Coleman Hawkins 52nd Street All-Stars, as well as three sides from her 1959 A GIRL AND HER GUITAR date, a track from the Clark Terry CATS VS. CHICKS session, the 1977 Marian McPartland-led NOW'S THE TIME, and her final leader date in 1981. Coming up this week: "A Few Miles From Memphis: Harold Mabern in the 1960s." Big Beat Steve Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 A question that may have been asked elsewhere before but anyway ... Is there an easily accessible reissue of her 1959 Warwick LP out? Being unable to find that one, out of despair a couple of years ago I bought her later "Now and Then" LP on the Stash label (which includes about half of that Warwick LP) but still ... Quote

Big Beat Steve Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 Thanks Marcel! They do talk of a CD there but the way they refer to it its sound seems to be so-so and it probably is OOP anyway. Quote
jeffcrom Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 If you do another Mary Osborne show, let me know. I have a (presumably) one-of-kind acetate, purchased in an Atlanta antique store, of a broadcast by Osborne's trio from 1947. She mostly features her singing in the 10-minute spot, but there are some nice guitar licks along the way. Quote
ghost of miles Posted July 17, 2021 Author Report Posted July 17, 2021 (edited) Up for Mary Osborne’s centenary today, and because we’re re-airing the show this week in honor of it: Mary Osborne: Queen Of The Jazz Guitar Edited July 17, 2021 by ghost of miles Quote
Ken Dryden Posted July 18, 2021 Report Posted July 18, 2021 Very nice, I'll try to look over your playlist. I imagine nearly all, if not all of the music is long out of print. Quote

Stonewall15 Posted July 19, 2021 Report Posted July 19, 2021 I have a very nice CDR made from the Mary Osborne Warwick LP "A Girl and Her Guitar". Quote
hopkins Posted January 8, 2024 Report Posted January 8, 2024 As I was just listening to it, thought I would point out that the CD is available on streaming services: https://open.qobuz.com/album/nqaso54vayhia It includes tracks from previous sessions. Quote
