bertrand Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 In a video, Butch Warren plays a piece which he identifies after as 'Big Noise From Winnetka' and credits to a bass player named Chubby Hayes. I can't find anything on such a person, and in any case he did not write the tune. Any idea what Butch was thinking of? I'm sure he's referring to something, I just don't know what. Thanks, Bertrand. Harold_Z Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Big Noise was a Bob Haggart - Ray Baduoc specialty. I wonder if Butch saw Chubby perform it sometime. I also wonder if Chubby ever did it on his tv show. Quote
Larry Kart Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Maybe if you put Chubby Jackson, Bob Haggart, Gabby Hayes, and Two-Ton Baker in a Cusinart? In fact, thinking of Jackson, Gabby Hayes, and Baker, they were all -- at one time or another and in one way or another -- fixtures on daytime television in the 1950s, when the young Warren probably was a TV viewer. Perhaps that's the clue? I certainly can imagine that on Jackson's show, in between cartoons and clowning, he might have picked up the bass and played "Big Noise." It is a fun number. Quote
bertrand Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 I was thinking Jackson as well, and Butch probably did see him on TV. Also, his father had a band so maybe that was a number they did. Can't find any obvious evidence of Jackson playing this tune, but I really don't know his discography. Bertrand. Quote
bertrand Posted March 14, 2011 Author Report Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) We asked Butch, and he said there's a Tubby Hayes AND a Chubby Hayes. I'll try to ask him again after the talk on Wednesday. Bertrand. Edited March 14, 2011 by bertrand Quote

BillF Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 No. I only listen to Bonnie Scott, Chubby Hayes and Honk Mostly. Quote
