sonnyhill Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 Could someone please identify the music playing in this YouTube Video? It sounds like Coleman Hawkins. I may be wrong. Thanks. Quote
JSngry Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 The audio cuts off right when the tenor solo starts, but I could go Illinois Jacquet on this one, actually. Quote
Larry Kart Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 I think Jim's got it. Also, the drummer sounds to me like Shadow Wilson, which would fit. The pianist then should be/might be Sir Charles Thompson, but I don't get a Sir Charles vibe as strongly as I do a Shadow Wilson one -- touch sounds a wee bit heavy for Sir Charles, but that might be because the pianist was miked that way. jazztrain Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 It's not Hawkins. It sounds a lot like Jacquet, but it's not. It's John Hardee. The tune is Cobblestones. It was issued on the "Sittin' In With" label. Personnel: John Hardee(ts), Al Haig (p), Clyde Lombardi (b), Tiny Kahn (d). 1948. Quote
JSngry Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 Did not know that homeboy Hardee recorded for that label. Is the material readily available? Quote
jazztrain Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) I have it on cd on Classics 1136 (John Hardee, 1946-1948). I think I might also have it on a Spotlite LP but can't check until later. Did not know that homeboy Hardee recorded for that label. Is the material readily available? jazztrain Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 Your welcome. Glad to help. As I had kind of remembered, it's also on a Spotlite LP: Al Haig Meets the Master Saxes Volume One. Thanks! Quote
