BFrank Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 (edited) A few months ago I made a painful decision to sell 2/3 of my collection to Amoeba (~800 LPs). Best thing I ever did. Next I have to make some CD decisions. Edited February 26, 2011 by BFrank Quote
Dmitry Posted February 26, 2011 Author Report Posted February 26, 2011 I will be selling a number of LPs myself in the coming year, once I purge and sort them all. Like you, I will sell as a lot, not individually, so as not to waste time. How did Amoeba price yours? Academy Records in NY buys cds/lps for 1/3 their retail price [whether true or not, I have no idea, but that's what the clerk told me.] Quote

I still have several hundred LP's I've been meaning to sell, and I don't really want to go the individual/ebay route either. I've sold some to stores (Grooveyard, Dusty Groove, etc) over the years, but it's been awhile. Any details you'd care to share would be appreciated. Quote
porcy62 Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 Touching story. Thanks for posting. Quote

Dmitry Posted February 26, 2011 Author Report Posted February 26, 2011 Something isn't right here. Why doesn't he just hire people to sell his LPs? If he puts 5 f/t guys/gals on commission, let's say even 50%, he should make more than what his wholesale price is. He's offering $5000/day shopping spees. http://www.recordrama.com/invite.htm I'm sure all the desirable titles have been picked over. Quote
JSngry Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 5 ft guys & gals? Even with the ladders, I don't know if they could reach the toppest shelves! Quote
EyeSpeech Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 This is why I have a fairly rigorous collection policy...only titles that I know will be getting repeat listening. No point in collecting things that get spun once and then put on the shelf for eternity. It also has allowed me to splurge on a nice stereo and avoid storage headaches. Quote
