Every time I read the results of a poll, I note the proportion of the "respondents" who have "no opinion". I'm hard-pressed to think of things about which I have no opinion. I suppose some arcance consideration among stamp collectors or the things that (only) women think about. But broad, controversial topics...

Whether vinyl is better than 472-bit FLAC direct-to-disc SACD Betamax (with or without fancy packaging).

Also whether Stork is better than butter.

Oh, and who gets an invite to the royal wedding.

Not to derail the thread with a serious answer, but I often read polls that I would give a 'no opinion' response. Sometimes it's because I don't think I know it all like I did when I was younger, but just as often it's because the wording of the poll is so simplistic or moronic that there is no way to choose from the listed options.

Exactly what Moose said.

As I've gotten older I've discovered that there are many things about which it is unnecessary for me to have an opinion and even when I have one it is rarely necessary for me to voice it.

I somewhat foolishly congratulated Sen. Mark Kirk on his vote to end Don't Ask Don't Tell and urged him to act like a moderate Republican (no dice so far). Anyway, I now get emails from his office, including a poll that said something like Should we be cutting the budget more than President Obama called for in his recent proposal? Yes, No or Don't Know.

My real answer would be something "yes, but not in the ways you want to cut," but that was way too nuanced, so I just said Don't Know, which is sort of akin to No Opinion.

My post was serious.
