A Lark Ascending Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 (edited) Excellent programme - loved Dave Gelly's enthusiastic but enlightening commentary. I actually felt I was learning something about the music rather than having some critic's abstract theory read onto it. Edited February 19, 2011 by A Lark Ascending Quote
JohnS Posted February 20, 2011 Author Report Posted February 20, 2011 Yes, excellent programme. Gelly's comments certainly make me want to dig the records out. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 My internet feed crashed half way through the 'Roll Call' track. At least it's available for another 7 days. Quote
BillF Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Have almost all the records in my collection, but as people have remarked, Gelly's comments certainly gave food for thought. Hearing Hank live - as opposed to on Blue Note records - made him realise Hank's quietness. For me it was the sheer beauty of his sound, something that never drew my attention on the records. Quote
DukeCity Posted February 20, 2011 Report Posted February 20, 2011 Thanks for the heads-up. I love the fact that on the BBC R3 player, the volume "goes to 11"! Quote
