Art Pepper's Artist's House Sessions

I have all three on hold for a reasonable $17 for all three. They seem legit because Laurie Pepper's name is listed in the credits on the back of the cd. They are the produced by some co. called "Audiophile Productions" I think. The real question is, are these worth acquiring? I love his Contemporary material, but don't know much about his music when he was released from prison and signed with Galaxy etc. So can you guys recommend these? Is this a good batch of records?

I have NY Album (it was briefly available on Galaxy). In the last phase of his career, Pepper was astonishingly consistent...and great. I'd grab them.

The Artists House material is all in the Galaxy Box. In general, the Galaxy albums are better, as I recall.

My memory is that So In Love is the best of the 3 (esp'ly the title tune) and it's worth $17 by itself. However, post-prison Pepper (which includes some on Contemporary)is a different animal than pre-, and not to everyone's tastes. Much more overtly 'expressive', sometimes selfconsciously so, but it usually works for me, YMMV, etc.

Well the price is good, its much cheaper and easier than getting the Galaxy. I like this music in doses and that seems like a good dose. A convenient way to find out of later Pepper is for you, well recorded though I can't speak for those editions. And they are sitting there waiting for you!

I love late Pepper, but have the "box set syndrome" concerning his Galaxy albums... can't say anything about the original albums as I got to know this all in bulk, but as has been mentioned, all highly consistent, and in my book, all very good to great!

I have "So In Love" on Artist House. Were the other two titles ever released by Artist House or did they come out after Artist House folded? I was under the impression that Analogue Productions issued the other two titles first.
