Guest Bill Barton Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 i'm on temporary hiatus from both shows at kbcs. shattered my right elbow in a freak accident. surgery, week in hospital, now have a butt-ugly and very uncomfortable brace on right arm. can't use that hand or arm at all. looks like a long healing/recovery... arm bends about 30 degrees on a good day, less on a bad one. tons of physical therapy to go. doing everything with your left hand is a bitch, especially when you live alone. tasks that took seconds become chores that take many minutes. all of my creative outlets are on hold: the radio shows, the freelance writing, the drumming... gotta find new ones for awhile i guess. not that i've been all that active here recently anyway, but probably will be even less so in months ahead...
jeffcrom Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Damn, Bill! I'm really sorry to hear this. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery.

kinuta Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Sorry to hear that. I broke my wrist last year and sympathize. Hope you get better as quickly as possible. The physiotherapy can be lengthy.
BillF Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 So sorry to hear that, Bill. I recommend lots of music therapy.
J.A.W. Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Sorry to hear that. I hope it'll get better soon.
Brownian Motion Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Ouch! Hope you have a quick rehab.
paul secor Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Hope you heal completely - and quickly if possible. Completely is most important.
ghost of miles Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Best wishes for a full and timely recovery, Bill. I feel your pain--had a bicycle accident several years ago that put my right arm and hand out of commission for several weeks, and doing some of the simplest things became laborious for this non-leftie. (Almost made myself into one, though!)
BeBop Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 What's it about the Pacific (Inland) Northwest? Your "bummer" sounds like mine, minus the ice(?) Speedy mend!
BruceH Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Sorry to read about this. My sincere wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
Quincy Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 I guess you can take in some movies, though despite the nature & spirituality angle I don't know if 127 Hours would be a good choice now or not. (Sorry.) All the best with recovery & rehab.
Guest Bill Barton Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 thanks everyone! i'll still cruise by here on occasion. plenty of "spare" time, that's for sure. this left-hand typing sucks! never thought i'd be reduced to this annoying im-speak no caps style - lol. yeah, i'm hangin' in there. thing i'm missing the most right now is being able to play my congas and ashiko. gonna have a strong left hand when this is all done though!
GA Russell Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Best wishes, Bill. I'll add you to my prayer list tonight.
mikeweil Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Get well soon! And don't let the physiotherapy bug you - it sure helps. Ashiko drumming with your left hand only? Nice ...
David Ayers Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Um so er sympathy etc. Um er ... freak accident? Care to indulge the rubber-neckers?
Johnny E Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 I bet those two posts took you three hours to peck out with you left hand. Get better soon Bill.
alocispepraluger102 Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 best wishes, bill, for a speedy and complete recovery. your matchless sounds will be deeply missed on this end.
