Allan Songer
Another "rare" (the third in three weeks on Ebay) that will of course, go to Japan at, of course, more than 1500 $ by, of course, an "Esnipe" specialist.... same old story. http://cgi.ebay.com/JACKIE-McLEAN-The-New-...1QQcmdZViewItem And even Atomic has had several copies in the past few years... this one looks pretty nice, though. My pal Greg bought his VG+ copy for $1 at Ashby BART Station Flea Market. I have a really, really BEAT-MINUS original and the 80's Japanese reissue. Can't say I love the session--I pulled it out once in the last 5 years when I went on a 5-6 day Jackie Mac binge after he passed . . . michel1969
Another one way ticket to Japan, (and probably a heavy one !) Niko
Among the Liberty era cover variations (were is the thread regaring this aspect ? did not found it) , this one reminds us a Paul Quinichette album on Prestige... http://cgi.ebay.com/LOU-DONALDSON-LP-SUNNY...1QQcmdZViewItem once observed a conversation between two men (who obviously didn't know about the connection between eggs and sunnyside up) one had that quinichette in his hand "another one of those covers that have nothing to do with the music" (and imagine how completely nuts that cover (these covers) must seem if you can't associate it with the album title)
clifford_thornton
That McLean AdLIb went for almost $5G. WTF?
michel1969
That McLean AdLIb went for almost $5G. WTF? Yes. And the madness is in the US apparently. Those sellers like Atomic have a rule to sell these kind of record : 1) set a very high reserve price (more than 2 k), 2) wait for the two (generally no more) bidders that will start the insane bidding, in the last minute. In this case 2000, 2200 and... suddenly 4000 ! (two times !), then almost 5000 !! . That works everytime time. You'll always find the wealthy hipster "i-want-this-record-no matter-what-price". Next time they'll set a reserve of 4000, and you'll have two guys fighting at 7000.... I suppose that those bidders are very proud of themsleves and think that they are serious and tasty collectors : "i bought a rare and fine record because i paid it a high price". etherbored
i couldn't agree more! for those who haven't clicked, 'nycsoulman' has a beat up copy of 1530 (jutta hipp w/ zoot sims), replete with bent up/torn/box-taped edges, for an opening bid requirement of $2499.99. in fact, all his current offerings seem to be a little rough around the edges... wow, i just realized he grades this 1530 as "vg+". even if the vinyl itself is super-clean (which is doubtful under the conditions of its jacket) can you believe that? -e-

This was several years ago and I paid him $202 for the record. The jacket was pretty nice, a solid VG+, NOT NM and the record was in beat-minus condtion with TWO skips and hideous surface noise. I asked for my money back and he told me to "pound sand" and said I was probably going to pull "the old switcheroo" and send him my beat copy and keep his nice one. I left negative feedback with 20 seconds to spare and I have NEVER EVER even looked at one of his auctions.
