I was under the impression that NTSC was playable on US machines (Region 1).

NYSC is the Amaerican and Japanese standard. Europeans used to the better PAL standard refer to NTSC as Not So Great Colour.

totally agree - that footage is magic - as far as I can recall there is no audio for that section (havn't watched it for a while)

Pretty frustrating to watch Bird, Prez, Ella and others up close with no accompanying sound but the images are magic

I guess Granz is the common thread, but it's an odd mix of tracks from multiple sources and times. I have the Duke item on this DVD:
