GA Russell Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Bob Hurst has two new albums out, the first of which is called Unrehurst vol.2. This was a live recording of a 2007 gig at Smoke in New York with Robert Glasper on piano and Chris "Daddy" Dave on drums. There are five songs - two originals by Hurst, one by Glasper, I Love You and Monk's Dream. Due to a snowstorm, the group was unable to rehearse prior to the gig, although Hurst and Glasper had played and recorded with each other before. I like it. For the most part, your opinion of the album will depend upon your opinion of Glasper. The two standards are pretty much mainstream, and the three originals less so. This is one of the better new albums I've heard in the last couple of years, but you have to like piano trios. Quote

jlhoots Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Last time I saw him he was playing on a Chris Botti DVD that some neighbors invited us over to watch. Food & wine they served was very good. Music was so-so. At least he must be cashing some checks. Quote
