brownie Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 I've always known the 'Sweet Smell of Success' actress as Susan Harrison. Here is her entry in Wikipedia: Susan Harrison From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Actress Susan Harrison (born August 26, 1938 in Leesburg, Florida) appeared in the film noir classic Sweet Smell of Success as the sister for whom Burt Lancaster has an unhealthy affection, as well as in the Twilight Zone episode Five Characters in Search of an Exit. She is the mother of Darva Conger, the bride in "Who Wants to Marry A Multi-Millionaire", a controversial Fox "reality-TV" program that aired in February 2000, and mercifully never was repeated. She lives with her daughter in Thousand Oaks, California. Quote

BruceH Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 But the young chick in Sweet Smell, Hunsecker's sister, never would have gone for Jim Hall! ← She was fine! I don't think she appeared in any other films. Are you saying that chicks don't dig bald, bespectacled guitarists? As a bald, bespectacled guitarist, I resemble that. I mean resent that. ← Let me amend that: If she had good musical taste she would have gone for Jim Hall. Quote
Guest Chaney Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Just a reminder that the Dabney Coleman series Buffalo Bill is up for preordering, available September 6, 2005. Deep Discount DVD price = $18.58 Quote
Free For All Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 This summer I picked up a couple favorites that came out in a "deluxe" version (as opposed to the bare-bones initial release). Hoosiers and A League of Their Own both have some great extras, and if you happen to like either of these, I'd recommend this latest version. Borders wanted 30 bucks for Hoosiers, but I got on Amazon and got it new from an independant seller for 11 bucks including shipping. Quote

BruceH Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Coming Oct. 4th! ← The first set is great and this will be better. I'm all over it. ← One of the best shows of the 70's, and certainly one of the best sitcoms of all time. Quote
Free For All Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I'm playing for a Bob Newhart show in a local casino next month. I'm curious to see what role the music/musicians will play. Also very interested to hear him do some of his stand-up. I think it will be a good time. Quote

BruceH Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 (edited) Just rented disc #1 of Undeclared, Judd Apatow's college follow-up to Freaks and Geeks. Paul Feig had nothing to do with this series, apparently, and it was a half-hour show, which cuts way down on the amount of characterization that can be sqeezed in, but it's pretty good. One thing I didn't realize---the main character's dad is played by Louden Wainwright. Also, Seth Rogen is in it, and the Nick Andopolus guy here plays the needy boyfriend-left-behind character, and is hilarious. Edited September 15, 2005 by BruceH Quote
kinuta Posted September 16, 2005 Report Posted September 16, 2005 (edited) The first two parts of John Ford's cavalry trilogy, ' Fort Apache' and ' She Wore A Yellow Ribbon'. 'Fort Apache' has been released here as a $4.50 version and I naturally snatched it off the shelf. the picture quality is not so good but far better than the VHS. 'She Wore A Yellow Ribbon' is a Korean version and surprisingly the picture quality is very good with clear colour separation and quite crisp detail. Seems this is the one to go for, rather than the US version which garnered very poor reviews. Along with 'Rio Grande', which I got a few weeks ago, this now completes the cavalry trilogy. My personal favourite is ' Rio Grande'. The photography and interplay between John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara is quite wonderful. Edited September 16, 2005 by kinuta Quote

Even if it's only half as good as F&G, that would still make it better than most of what's ever been on television. Quote
BERIGAN Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Came out Sept. 6th. The less you know about it the better, but if you like Preston Sturges, you probably know all about the plot! Quote
BruceH Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 Morgan's Creek is not one of my favorite Sturges movies, but it's far from the worst. (Best thing in it, for my money: Good ol' William Demarest, as the harried father.) Quote
joeface Posted September 23, 2005 Report Posted September 23, 2005 the last three I've acquired and watched: Quote

Jazzmoose Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 anyone pick up the new 2 disc set? i like this movie ss1 ← Damn, I haven't seen that move in years. Used to love it. How does it hold up? ← I have the old one disc one, and while I realize that it isn't exactly a "critics dream", I love this movie! As far as I'm concerned, it's as good as any of Cagney's gangster flicks. (Gasp!) Quote
BFrank Posted September 25, 2005 Report Posted September 25, 2005 Just received these, but haven't watched them yet. Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 28, 2005 Author Report Posted September 28, 2005 Has anyone picked up the new 10th Anniversary edition of "Mallrats"? I've got all the other Jay & Silent Bob DVDs, but have been missing this one, as it's been OOP for a while now.... Kevin Smith sells autographed versions of his flicks on his website, I just discovered. Quote

Guy Berger Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Also, I just made it through the 8th dvd of The prisoner. "Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling" and "Living in Harmony" really threw me for a loop (especially the second one) though on second thought I think that if I watched them again I'd conclude they are two of the best episodes in the series. Only 3 more episodes to go! Quote
