mjazzg Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Sad news that drummer Tony Levin died today. http://londonjazz.bl...-1940-2011.html He tore the roof off the Vortex in London only last year playing with Mujician Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 That's a sad one. Saw him many times, both in a free and straightahead setting. A regular at Appleby back in the good old days. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Shit! I was corresponding with him for a minute; seemed like a nice guy and definitely a great player. RIP. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 dude, i feel bad for the guy, i do, but you just REALLY freaked me out just now. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) Damn - he made some great albums over the years. Some particularly fine ones with Tubby Hayes e.g. 'Mexican Green'. A stalwart of British jazz. Just listening to him the other day on the Kenny Wheeler 'Dream Sequence'. Last time I saw him live must have been with Keith Tippett and Mujician some years ago. RIP, another very sad loss. Edited February 4, 2011 by sidewinder Quote
The Rep Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Another sad loss, I saw him with some of the british greats, always good, always at home. Yesterday I was listening to Joe Harriotts album "Live At Harry's" on which Tony play's, I believe it is made from some of Tony's private recordings. Thanks for the music. RIP Tony Levin. Quote
