clifford_thornton Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Our fellow board member "caravan" shared with me some fantastic photos of the Dutch scene in the '60s and '70s, of which he was a part. Not sure if he wants his identity public beyond what I'm telling you. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Anyone mention Marion Brown? Quote
brownie Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Even Allen would have trouble interviewing Marion Brown now! AFAIC I am eagerly waiting to read Jason Weiss 'Always in Trouble' as soon as Wesleyan has it out! Quote

clifford_thornton Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Anyone mention Marion Brown? You do know he died this year, right? Tintweiss is still alive, yes. This thread makes me happy - serves as a reminder how many great musicians are still with us. Allan Praskin: alto sax Bert Wilson: tenor sax Warren Gale: trumpet Michael Cohen: piano Bruce Cale: bass James Zitro: drums ESP 1052 James Zitro - Zitro Since 1983, Allan Praskin is a lecturer in jazz saxophone at the Anton Bruckner University in Upper Austria, Linz. Seit 1983 hat Allan Praskin einen Lehrauftrag für Jazz-Saxophon an der Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität im oberösterreichischen Linz inne. Praskin was like 16 when he made that record, too! Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Dave Holland and Arild Anderson - these guys are on some fantastic free records Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 The thing is, a fair amount of the musicians still with us and playing aren't all that interested in talking about the "old days." Holland is a particular example... ONLY wanted to talk about his new records and pretty much had no interest in talking about the '70s or the '60s. Quote
flat5 Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 "Praskin was like 16 when he made that record, too!" Yeah, we were both students at Madison Jr. High School in North Hollywood in the early 60s. He could play very good in the 7th grade! We were lucky to have Marvin Brown (trumpet) as one of the music teachers. Quote
AllenLowe Posted January 28, 2011 Author Report Posted January 28, 2011 it's ok if they don't want to talk about the old days - if this project ever happens (and I give it only 50-50) it won't really matter. Quote
