AllenLowe Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) allright, long story short, I may be doing a project on '60s free jazz, sort of the ESP generation. can you name some of those people who are still around and reachable (well, still around, anyway)? off the top of my head, Ros Rudd, Paul Bley, Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor....Carla Bley. Annette Peacock....Gary Peacock, Steve Swallow.....Henry Grimes......Giuseppi Logan...Shepp - give me a few, if you don't mind, because I have a major-sized headache this morning. I appreciate it..... Edited January 27, 2011 by AllenLowe Quote

AllenLowe Posted January 27, 2011 Author Report Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) sort of on the cusp - though more and more I'm thinking that this thing should combine years, first and second generation of this whole school (adding, for example BAG) - Edited January 27, 2011 by AllenLowe Quote

six string Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 He was already mentioned and I don't know how interested he would be in talking about those things but John Tchicai is a sweet man and I've always found him to be very approachable. Quote

Joe Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 What about Amiri Baraka (though approachability questions abound)? Quote
AllenLowe Posted January 27, 2011 Author Report Posted January 27, 2011 theoretically yes, but probably not for this project (not trying to be evasive, but I don't think Baraka would work) - Quote

Larry Kart Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 theoretically yes, but probably not for this project (not trying to be evasive, but I don't think Baraka would work) - So it's "My Yiddishe Free Jazz"? Quote
paul secor Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 It was depressing looking through my collection and realizing how many musicians who were young in the 1960's are no longer with us. Quote
B. Clugston Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Bob James. Well, he did do an ESP album. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 He disowned it. Jason Weiss is doing an oral history of ESP, so I hear. Brackeen is alive but has a lot of "problems," so he might not be easy to reach or talk to. He's in LA. Quote
