Jazz Groove Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 For those that have seen live shows in NYC which jazz club do feel have the best acoustics for live music? It could be a club no longer around. My vote is going to the Village Vanguard. At the bottom of my list is going to be the Iridium. They always have gerat performers, but the sound is too flat for me. Outside of NYC can you tell me any in case I ever visit a city and want to hear some live jazz. Quote
sheldonm Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 The Jazz Showcase in Chicago and Jazz at the Bistro in St. Louis have very good sound, in my opinion! Happy New Year (a little early)! Quote

brownie Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 I've been inside many clubs, none beat the Village Vanguard. The place has unbeatable acoustics and that goes for trios or big bands. Wish I was living near the place! Quote
BFrank Posted December 31, 2003 Report Posted December 31, 2003 Yoshi's is pretty excellent. Especially when you consider that there are train tracks about 12 feet from the back wall, and you can barely hear it when one passes by. Quote

Wish I was living near the place! The first time I saw Cecil Taylor there, I couldn't even hear him. All I heard was the bass 'n'drums. When I went to see Pharoah at the VV, I had no problems hearing him. Maybe the problem is Cecil! I've never had any problems with Tonic. The new Knitting Factory is/was always a gamble. Quote
