Teasing the Korean Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Is it true that the LP and CD releases of LD's "Lush Life" are mastered from an acetate? I read this someplace online, and if the interwebz says so, it's got to be true. Listening to the vinyl DMM version and it sounds fine to me. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) No idea, but it was one of the 9 titles that didn't come out with their genuine 'Reid Miles' covers until the mid-80's, though that may be a red herring entirely. More on that discussion HERE, perhaps a clue to be found there (though none I can see). Alas, most of the hotlinked images don't work any more, so the thread doesn't make as much sense now (nor as enjoyable to read). Edited January 16, 2011 by Rooster_Ties Quote
brownie Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 I was listening recently to the original vinyl release (on King Japan) of the session... ...and it sounded very natural to me. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 wait so the cover w/ the chick, that isnt the reid miles cover? is it a libertycover? cause if so its a rather good one faithful to R.M., cause i always found it a good cover, definely in the blue note vibe but very colorful like the 60s well i like the cover, but whats the beef w. this album again, the cover wasnt RM, and it was mastered for record AND cd??? from not a tape but an acetate disc? you have to fact-check that article man i dunno about that, acetate? was lush life gonna be issued on 78? wouldnt it be just a regular test pressing disc by that point or whats up w/ the metal parts being used at this time, does that correllate. that is my concern w/ this thread. right now im listening to nothing. if i put on 1 thing, im neglecting 5000000000 things, it is hard to do. does this ever happen to you. deciding between lex. ave horace silver & the jazz messengers + Earl Klugh might seem like an easy decision, but walk a mile in my shoes, and im telling you theres zero speration Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 The cover with the chick is the original Reid Miles cover. Covers for it, and 8 other sessions were prepared for release, but never actually got released back in the day. The original production materials were lost, but some pre-production materials were found -- which only had b&w versions of what the covers would have looked like. The EMI art department folks took it from there, colorizing them to what we know today. It's all in this thread, though no one post covers it succinctly. If you only read Chuck's posts there, and the things he quotes from others -- that's probably everything. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 what was the orig cover of lushlife then, cause i do think i have a vinyl of that, but w/ a diff cover....is it the one, w/ a cartoon lady on it? or is that sophisiticated lady....no im confused.... Quote

Hi the RVG CD version does not sound as it was sourced from a master tape at least.... /Shaft Quote
crisp Posted January 24, 2011 Report Posted January 24, 2011 Pretty bad sound on the RVG as I recall - fuzzy to say the least. Quote
