mr jazz Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 any thoughts on Antonio Brasileiro? Quote
skeith Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Ok but what about my question - are the CTI albums purely instrumental???? Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Ok but what about my question - are the CTI albums purely instrumental???? Wave and Tide are mostly if not all instrumental. Stone Flower is a mix, more vocal than instrumental IIRC. Quote
king ubu Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Wave has never been reissued since the old jewel case edition, prob. from the late 80s, right? At least that version's still all over the sales... must be one of the longest-in-print Verve discs! Will get that one and "Jobim" from the sales, then (got "Tide" already) - thanks, Bev! Quote
jazzbo Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Yes, take Bev's advice because it sure is a good one. Quote

Big Al Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Yes, another vote for "Jobim!" He & Ogermann were perfect for each other! The only tracks I remember having vocals on the CTIs are on STONE FLOWER: Brazil and Sabia. IIRC, everything else is instrumental. BTW, in Half Price Books lately, I've seen these pressings of WAVE that look like they were manufactured in Russia. Do any of you know about these? Quote
king ubu Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Wanted to buy the "Plastic Dreams" MJQ disc that I left at the store last week... it was gone, instead I got me the Herbie Mann & João Gilberto in Rio De Janeiro disc with Jobim... quite nice, that one! Been circling around for that one for years, but since I get into that bossa mood again now and then in the past weeks, I went for it. Quote
mr jazz Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 "Elis and Tom"! especially the DVD-A multichannel mix. You are right in the studio Quote
king ubu Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Got "Jobim" and finally a real copy of "Elis & Tom" in today... a few days ago also got "A Certain Mr. Jobim" - beautiful, but way too short! One that begs to be repeated after 25 minutes! Quote
king ubu Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Gee, why did no one tell me "Jobim" and "Matita Perê" are the same? Guess I should have checked more closely, I know have the Verve By Request and the european Philips reissue... I know that "Antonio Carlos Jobim" is also known on Verve as "The Composer of Desafinado Plays"... are there any others I have to watch out? Quote
crisp Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Jobim's entry in the Original Album Series boxed sets is £7.99 at Amazon UK. Five CDs. It includes Wonderful World and other albums discussed here. Quote
GA Russell Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 That's a great price! I got it for Christmas. It cost me $17 plus $3 shipping. Quote
crisp Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 I agree with the Amazon reviewer on that link about the vocals, however. I've already rejected one set of these albums, so even at this price I'm not sure if it's worth my buying again for a second listen. Quote

I've already rejected one set of these albums, so even at this price I'm not sure if it's worth my buying again for a second listen. I'm in agreement on Jobim's singing voice, though I feel somewhat guilty (being a big fan of Brazilian music in general as well as of Jobim's compositions). Ah well - to each their own! Quote
JSngry Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 Anybody ever come across this 78, apparently the debut recording of the song? b/w Quote
