David Ayers Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 No it was a reply to the thread. For most people here the only dimension of any question of culture is ownership. Hence all the endless discussions about public domain and the corresponding complete absence of discussion about art. Quote

Oh, I disagree - for me, there's too much discussion of art and not enough of entertainment. YMMV MG Quote

Hence all the endless discussions about public domain and the corresponding complete absence of discussion about art. Oh, I disagree - for me, there's too much discussion of art and not enough of entertainment. YMMV MG We're not reading the same threads then. All I see are images of album covers, discussions about ownership and remastering, a curious pride in the ability of American labels large and small to shaft their artists by keeping stuff out of print for decades (we're supposed to be grateful when it trickles back out) allied to a hostility towards European labels which in recent decades have done the exact opposite. That and nudge-nudge wink-wink advice on where and how to filch recorded music. Discussions about art though... hm... Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 (edited) well, I do disagree. Because the what of this music is tied in so inextricably to the where, when, and how (and the I WANT IT). Edited October 28, 2012 by AllenLowe Quote
David Ayers Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 well, I do disagree. Because the what of this music is tied in so inextricably to the where, when, and how (and the I WANT IT). which brings it all down to 'CDs' and CD collectors - which reminds me I was going to ask you in another thread about your reference to 'our core audience' - setting aside the 'our' part, what do you think actually is the core audience of this (basically) historical music? Big Beat Steve Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 which reminds me I was going to ask you in another thread about your reference to 'our core audience' - setting aside the 'our' part, what do you think actually is the core audience of this (basically) historical music? Uh oh ... That's a wide field. Wider than some may imagine ... Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 I don't really know WHO the core audience is; but I do believe it is out there. There is too much jazz being played in too many places for it to be non-existent. Quote
JSngry Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Maybe everybody's playing for everybody else who's playing? Quote
AllenLowe Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 could be; and I have had nights when there were more musicians on the stand than people in the audience. Quote
JSngry Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Hopefully it wasn't a solo concert! Quote
RDK Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Well we can't very well talk about the "art" if we can't hear the stuff in the first place, can we? Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Well we can't very well talk about the "art" if we can't hear the stuff in the first place, can we? Oh, I think that's been done on more than a few occasions. Quote
