Niko Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 more than ever, from my better half an order from porcy Bobby Hutcherson - The Kicker Billy Bauer - Plectrist Grant Green - Standards Grant Green - First Sessions plus (she added something more decent) Joy Division BBC Sessions Mando Diao - Bring 'Em In (she said she found it barely ok (like most of the better music i listen to) and thought i'd probably like it more than her (which is indeed the case)) from my brother Keith Jolie - City so cold (he said ten years ago i recommended it to him, had completely forgotten i'd ever known anything about this) and from my mother the Bill Dixon BSSN set... finally some books: from my sister Barney Hoyskins - Hotel California (just finished and it's pretty good) from my mother Valerie Willmer - As Serious As Your Life George Lewis - the AACM book (but the last two are still in the mail) Quote
medjuck Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 The Complete Mingus at Birdland plus Brian Prestly's Mingus bio. Quote
Dave James Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 As I mentioned in another thread, the only music gifts I get are the ones I get from the biggest music fan I know, me. This year, that constituted the 21-LP box of the Complete Keynote Recordings. Quote
GA Russell Posted January 2, 2011 Author Report Posted January 2, 2011 Holy Toledo, Dave! How long do you think it will take you to listen to all 21 LPs? Quote
Dave James Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Holy Toledo, Dave! How long do you think it will take you to listen to all 21 LPs? Not long enough. Actually, my pre-amp has been on the DL for the last few weeks, so I need to get it fixed before I can even begin to listen. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I got music for Christmas - I finally have speakers from B&W's Nautilus line. I got the entry-level 805s on stands. The guy I got them from had new Diamond tweeters from the current 800 series installed by B&W. They sound beautiful. A little light on the bass (to be expected) but not a big problem with most of the Jazz I listen to. I also got Columbia's "Kind of Blue" box with 2 CDs, 1 DVD, an LP and book. Quote
sidewinder Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I also got Columbia's "Kind of Blue" box with 2 CDs, 1 DVD, an LP and book. A great package ! The 'Bitches Brew' one is just as good (although somewhat overkill for most of us ). Quote
