Dan Gould Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 When writing in Word 2003, each time I hit the enter key it leaves what looks like an old fashioned editor's paragraph mark at the end of the line - you know, like a "P" but with two lines instead of one. It wasn't like this before, then out of the blue it started and I've never figured out how to switch it back. A way to get rid of this annoyance is most appreciated. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 try this, press the ctrl key and shift and *, that should turn it off for you. Quote
mjzee Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 I have Word 2003 for the Mac, but this should work with Windows as well: Go to Preferences/View... Under the section "Nonprinting characters," "Paragraph marks" is probably checked. Those are the "P" but with two lines instead of one things you described. Uncheck this, and they should go away. Dan Gould Posted December 11, 2010 Author Report Posted December 11, 2010 Thanks guys, I ended up going to Format - > Reveal Format and there it was, Show All Formatting Marks was checked. So glad that thing is gone! :blush2: Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 There's a symbol at the top centre for 'show formatting'. Chances are you hit it by accident (I used to do that regularly!). Just click it to turn off/on: Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 11, 2010 Author Report Posted December 11, 2010 Mystery solved. Thanks, Bev! Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Glad your prob was fixed. Just be glad it's 2003 not 2007 - I think the decision to make dbl spacing the default and you have to go to Styles to fix it is right up there with 'new coke' as a stupid move. Quote
mjzee Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 I miss WordPerfect...never got ported to the Mac. Quote
medjuck Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 I hate Word but I'm afraid to try something else since everyone seems to use Word. Quote
