Hardbopjazz Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 It is time to replace the needle on my turntable. Although I don't use my turntable all that much anymore, I know it is time to replace it. I went into a local vinyl record store to get a price, and it was close to $130. I find that very expensive. All I need is the needle, and not the cartridge. Any site someone could recommend? Quote
paul secor Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Vladimir at Cadence - NorthCountry Audio is a good guy with fair prices: http://www.northcountryaudio.com/ Quote
jeffcrom Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 (edited) I second the recommendation of Needle Doctor. They're very helpful if you want to call with questions. Edited December 11, 2010 by jeffcrom Quote

thelbc Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 What cartridge do you have? If you know that, you'd have to be stupid not to find a replacement stylus(not 'needle') for it. Quote
AllenLowe Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 well, it takes all kinds.....not all of us are as needle-conscious as you Quote

jeffcrom Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 TheLBC actually called me last night; it was a long, emotional call. He revealed many of his innermost secrets to me, including the meaning of his pseudonym. At one point he became so overcome with emotion that he was unable to speak. While he sobbed, I filled the time by listening to Coltrane's Live In Japan album - twice, if I remember correctly. His angst stems from his concern that his posts are of such an abstract, intellectual nature that they can't be grasped by the rest of us. And I had to admit that there is some truth to that. Few of us here have matched the level of his contributions to the discourse on these forums. But I tried to assure The Loser-By-Choice that we all love him just the way he is. Please don't simplify the Johnsonian flow of your ideas for us. Quote
AllenLowe Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 actually, I find Jeff Crom to be a very USEFUL fag (not that there's anything wrong with that.......) Quote

Just spoke to Patrick there who gave me some good advice about a substitute record cleaning solution for my VPI LP cleaning machine and also about obtaining a new cartridge in a particular price range. Extremely helpful and knowledgable. Edited December 13, 2010 by MartyJazz Quote
