porcy62 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Had the Prestige been reissued on vinyl? Japan, OJC, any? Quote
jeffcrom Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 It was reissued in 1976 as part of a two-fer called "The All Star Sessions." It was paired with "Homecoming." Quote
brownie Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Prestige also reissued 'Informal Jazz' as 'Two Tenors' in their 'Jazz Classics Series' back in 1969: Wonder why they displayed John Coltrane's name instead of Elmo Hope's Quote

Trane has always had a superhuman stature in jazz circles (and certainly so in the early years after his untimely death) whereas Elmo Hope would more fall into the "in-crowd awareness" category. Trying to pitch a sale ... unless my impressions were all skewed this kind of "mis-billing" wasn't exactly uncommon in 70s reissues, even in jazz. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 There was an early '60s version giving Coltrane and Mobley equal billing. Quote
jostber Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 There also exists a vinyl and CD version with this cover: Quote

Knew the answer... Thought my remark was enough in jest! Next time, I'll add a stronger emoticon Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I have a VICJ-K2 CD reissue from Japan, with the white and yellow cover. Quote

Katharsis Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 The bad thing is, that Prestige has done this reissue-thing under different names some kind of regularly. This is especially annoying, because you have to double check. I remember a reissue of Doug Watkins' "Soulnik" under the name of Yusef Lateef. Quote
