brownie Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Timeless has been reissuing several albums in its new Jazz Legacy series in recent weeks. The first 10 and more to come... Quote
David Ayers Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) Well I can't get *too* thrilled about yet another jazz reissue series but there are some interesting titles and the price is right. Aren't these already in print from Timless and why do they come out now from Challenge? Maybe in due time they'll do some titles that never made it to CD. Like Marion Brown La Placita. Though that's not much cop actually. And anway, they won't will they? This is just a straight repackage job, I think. Edited December 10, 2010 by David Ayers Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 The LD is new to me (never would have guessed he recorded Whiskey Drinkin Woman in the studio) as is the Al Cohn; anyone who doesn't have the George Coleman ought to snap it up now. Quote
Brad Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 I don't know most of the albums on the list and there are some that wouldn't appeal to me like the Byrd but I have a copy of the Coleman and that is definitely worth getting. Quote
John L Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Yes, that George Coleman is a fine recording. The Tommy Flanagan is also one of his better trio dates. Quote
kh1958 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 The Art Blakey (Bobby Watson musicial director) and Chet Baker CDs are both good. The Adams-Pullen is their only recording on Timeless that I don't care for--the pairing with John Scofield doesn't really work well. Quote
king ubu Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Got the Al Cohn a few days ago and it's AMAZING! :tup Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Got the Al Cohn a few days ago and it's AMAZING! :tup You made me check on Amazon and I agree, the samples sound terrific - particularly "Blue Monk". And there are a lot of new copies available on the Marketplace for under $9. Quote
David Ayers Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 (edited) Turns out these are on spotify - so here I go! Well, I say "these" - the Cohn is there anyway... good stuff Edited December 11, 2010 by David Ayers Quote
BFrank Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 FWIW, "Amsterdam After Dark" (on Timeless) has been available for a while on eMusic. Don't know its availability in physical form, though. Anyone know if this new set of releases has been remastered, too? Quote
brownie Posted December 11, 2010 Author Report Posted December 11, 2010 Anyone know if this new set of releases has been remastered, too? That's what the newly-released CDs I have seen claim. Quote

It was out on CD on the Impulse label for awhile in the early CD days, as were some of the other Timeless titles. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 I like the A-P w/Sco, for whatever that's worth... Quote
