AllenLowe Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 reading these lists always makes me very nervous. Who did I miss (and maybe that's why he won't return my call)? Quote
Mark Stryker Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 From Detroit: Jack Brokensha (vibes, Australian Jazz Quartet, Motown) Steve Richko (gifted young pianist in his early 30s) Brazeal Dennard (founder of Brazeal Dennard Chorale, fantastic African American choir and expert in African-American spirituals.) randyhersom Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 (edited) Eddie Higgins. And Walt Dickerson's been gone over two and a half years but I still feel it like yesterday. Edited December 4, 2010 by randyhersom Quote
Justin V Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 I did not know - or remember, at least - that Valdo passed this year. On July 8th (born March 30, 1928). I haven't yet picked up his Savoy date, but I was intrigued by his playing on the Charlie Parker Montreal 1953 Uptown disc. I wanted to write him and find out whether he played anymore, but I never had the nerve. I still wish that I had dropped Bill DeArango a note about 7 years ago when I had the chance... Quote

randyhersom Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 That explains him not being mentioned earlier : ( Thanks Quote

The Savoy LP rules. I'll have to grab that Uptown CD one of these days. Quote
