Private House Party with Freddie Redd and Butch Warren

There will be a private house party this Saturday 12/4 at 7:00 PM which will mark the VERY FIRST meeting of Freddie Redd and Butch Warren!

It is taking place in Boyds, MD, which is in upper Montgomery County, MD (near Germantown).

This is a private party with limited space but there are still some openings. If you are interested, send me a PM and I will tell you how to sign up.

You beat me to it!

In addition to Freddie and Butch, the band was Brad Linde (tenor sax and arranger), Brian Settles (tenor sax) and Tony Martucci (drums).

They played 3 Butch tunes, 2 Freddie tunes and 5 standards including 'Round Midnight.

A magical night, glad there are videos. I am probably walking in front of the camera a couple of times, and my 10-year old son many times!

Very nice! So is Freddy playing regularly again? I'd heard he was having some problems. I assume he's no longer living in L.A.?

Freddie now lives in Baltimore. My friend Brad Linde had him come up for some East Coast gigs two years ago and he decided to stay, lucky for us. No major health problems to my knowledge.

Not too much steady gigging yet but things are brewing. There was a gig at the Iridium the day before Thanksgiving with David Weiss, Javon Jackson and Louis Hayes. I will keep you posted.

Here's the main thing to keep in mind: Freddie's playing in the last few months has been AMAZING. Every gig just keeps getting better.

Freddie's a nice guy - when I was in Stockholm about 20 years ago I was staying at Keith Knox's and we called him up because I had been friends with the drummer Sir John Godfrey, for whom Redd wrote a song, "Sir John." Is he recording?

That's the drummer on Redd's third BN album - who was he anyway? Never ever heard of his name anywhere else!

Sir John used to play in NYC a lot in the 1970s and I got to know him pretty well, booked him on a few things, did one or two sessions with him on drums, I think.

Fine fine player when he was on, when he was off he was off (smoked a little too much stuff); good guy. I lost track but heard he died.
