porcy62 Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 From BBC: Italian cinema great Mario Monicelli 'kills himself' One of the greats of post-war Italian cinema, Mario Monicelli, has killed himself by jumping out of a hospital window, media reports say. Monicelli, 95, was dubbed "father of Italian comedy" for directing films such as Amici Mei (My Dear Friends) and I Soliti Ignoti (Persons Unknown). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11873511 He was definitely a great man, and a great director. I urge you to look for his movies, they really deserve a place among Antonioni's and Fellini's ones. RIP Mario. Quote
brownie Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 I posted about Monicelli's tragic end in the '****Return of the Film Corner****' thread earlier today. That was very sad news! Quote
porcy62 Posted December 1, 2010 Author Report Posted December 1, 2010 That was very sad news! Yes. He was a neighbour, five minutes walk from my home. My nephew worked with him lately. He was some sort of old grumpy magnificent relative. As somebody said about his suicide at 95 y/o, he had always the final cut. I already miss him. Quote
king ubu Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Not yet familiar with his films, just with his name... what a sad way to go... but then somehow at 95 maybe also a beautiful way to go, no? r.i.p. Quote
